Last year was my first DLD. I went solo and had a complete blast. Of course I ended up with 2 vintage bottles. I'm hoping I get a decent variant this year. Looking forward to sharing some beers with you all!

When you hope for descent, the Dark Lord will oblige.

The Dark Lord will descend from the hells of the 3F distillery and give us all vintages.

We've got 47 days until this year's DLD. I've told myself to not think as much about what I'm going to take for sharing, and to just figure it out the week or so before. But, I said that last year and it didn't really work.

Is it shameful that I already have a potential list? Thinking of bringing:

    DBSS
    The purple kriek
    mother of all storms 15'
    Black Tues 16'
    Westy 16'
    Fresh moonraker hops

Yea i stuffed a bunch in a box a few months ago but dont remember what I put in there... Now that the limit is lower I will have to reconfigure anyways. I just picked up a crowler of Raspberry Sherbert from Mikerphone/Unititled but that would take up almost half my limit lol

Gotta echo this advice, don't be afraid to turn down beer. It's best to keep your taste buds alive as long as possible.

I'm definitely not saying take everything offered to you, that is a good way to end DLD with the paramedics. It is definitely ok to decline, just no need to be a dick about it.

My buddy and I are coming from Minneapolis for our first DLD. Probably won’t be at the fest until 9am. Sounds like a lot of the sharing occurs bright and early, but does it also continue through the morning and into the afternoon? The share sounds like one of the best parts so want to make sure we aren’t totally missing it.

Wasn't there a rule previously, maybe it's still there, that you couldn't bring in generic big beers, I forget what they called them, but basically no BMC stuff?

Hmm that would make sense. I don't know. There was this guy walking around last year with a bag full of PBR, Blatz, Schlitz, little Kings. Total hipster dude with a crazy fancy mustache. I actually chugged a little king with him. I was totally thinking of him when writing the comment.

Share is by far the best part. It starts the night before and goes until the morning after. Solid point was brought up about trying new beers and politely refusing ones you have already tried.

Piece of advice. If you want to smash tons of beer and stay at the festival open to close, take advantage of the unlimited coffee at the Dark Matter tent. I was shaking going to bed but both years I've attended I've stayed til the end and was actually oddly coherent. I had probably 15 pours each year and 9 of those were Dark Lord + variants my first year. Had at least 5 mugs of coffee and a couple espresso shots

The coffee offsets the drunkenness perfectly.

Last year, a guy gave me abraxas and preemptively apologized it wasn’t barrel aged. I felt bad that he felt like he needed to apologize!

Last year, I went with 8 people or so, and we organized a bottle share amongst us, representing different styles for different parts of the day. Our logic was that we were a completely self-sufficient and self-regulating happy share, with more beer than we ourselves could drink. People drifted in and out and I was glorious. (We did have people popping whales when they were way passed wasted, and concerned citizens would run up and say “naw, save it for later!” But we couldn’t save it for later. The Dark Lord was in our veins).

Edit: @Warren2621 - please make a visit with a cardiologist before attending this year’s festival.

To add to this, don’t be afraid to say no to beers you’ve tried before, and know you’ll try again- especially if it’s a big ass beer - even if you know it’s awesome.

I love BCS. It’s one of my favorite beers of all time, but if someone is pouring regular or coffee, I will politely decline, as I only have so many “life points” before I’m passing out.
