    Hello all -

Looking for suggestions for places to hit on a quick 3 day stint down to Omaha from the TC. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and plan to roll into Des Moines around 11: my plan was to hit Exile and Confluence, have some lunch, then motivate on to Omaha where I know that I want to hit Farnam and Zipline for sure. I'm looking for

    1) any places that I shouldn't miss between Des Moines and Omaha (since I'll be on the way) and

    2) other breweries that are crushing it in Omaha currently.

I did search BA and if I've missed an obvious thread, I apologize. I know there is a number of microbreweries around (I've been a couple times) but am really looking for what you as locals think I shouldn't miss currently.

Any suggestions that you can provide are appreciated - cheers!

I've only had them once, but I've enjoyed the beers from Lake Time in Clear Lake, Iowa.

I would check out Barn Town. My favorite spot from a trip last August. It's in West Des Moines, but on the way if you're headed to Omaha.

If you're into IPAs, you shouldn't miss Barn Town in West Des Moines/Waukee. Easily my DSM favorite right now. Good food too. Exile does have some good ones on tap generally.
You might be able to swing through Alluvial in Ames as well. Is not too far off your path to DSM. Just had their ddh Lontra and coconut Pluvial last weekend, both fantastic.

If you don't know already, you should check out International Bakery before you drive home from Omaha.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, some good things to check out. Added Barn House to the going down itinerary (with lunch) and while I had planned to hit 515 on the way back (works for time), I will check out Lake Time and Alluvial as well. As to Omaha, I had forgotten about Kros Train...thanks!!! We've got a couple nights to bum around so likely will hit Brickway, Zipline, Farnam, and some others as well. International Bakery and Beertopia sounds like a good plan to hit on the way out of town Saturday morning. El Bait shop, as always, is fantastic and not off the table. Thanks and cheers to all for the tips!

echoing the love for kros strain.

the benson area is loaded with nice bars. between krug park, barcade, jake's and barchen you'll have a selection of 150+ beers in a 2-3 block radius. infusion and benson breweries are also there, and while i'm not big on the beers from either place, benson has good bar food

    +1 to Barn Town
The brewer's burger is excellent, but the house-cured bacon on it is life-changing.

it will be worth your while to go to boiler brewing in Lincoln on saturday. It is there 2 year anniversary, and they are tapping a different barrel aged beer every hour.

jesus i didn't even realize that was this weekend. so this weekend we have a boiler anny party, happy raven sourfest and a cbs/kbs vertical at jake's? OP should 100% skip omaha and just head to lincoln. not kidding.

Fantastic little trip, lots of good beer and conversation had. Ended up hitting Exile, Confluence, Barn Town, and 515 in DM. All were good but I really enjoyed Confluence - plan to come down and enjoy the outdoor space this summer. In Omaha hit Benson, Brickway, Farnam, Zipline, Vis Major, Kros Strain, Pier 9, and 5168. Zipline and Kros Strain were my favorites of that day. Didn't make it to Lincoln - saving if for the next trip. Alluvial in Ames closed out the trip and was a fitting end - great stuff. Thanks again to all for the suggestions!

Apologize for dredging up a year-old thread... but,

We will be driving from St Paul to Denver first week of July and are planning at stopping at either Omaha or Lincoln to spend a night and break up the drive.

From reading this thread it seems like it's a question of Kros Strain Vs Boiler.

Any thought on one vs the other (or someplace else we should hit?
    Thanks!

if we are just comparing the two breweries, kros strain makes well-tuned beer, generally with more of an emphasis on hoppy or light styles. it's a spacious taproom but a little isolated from other beer destinations in omaha but right next door to pint 9 brewing (not noteworthy imho). boiler is all over the place, constantly brewing new stuff, and generally is very heavy-handed with the adjuncts. it is in the heart of downtown lincoln and you can easily walk to a few other beer bars/breweries (i would recommend jake's cigars & spirits and the happy raven for the bars).
i personally greatly prefer kros strain beers, but this is a matter of personal preference, tons of people absolutely love boiler. i think location wise if you are looking for a cluster of places to hit up, boiler/lincoln is the better option. you can also find kros strain bottles/taps around lincoln, whereas boiler does not distribute outside of their brewery.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

We're going to check into the hotel, grab some food at a bar, then hit a taproom (maybe two). Then hit the road again the next morning. If we can do all of this on foot that sounds like a winner.

Thanks for the help, and sorry for your unfortunate username.

Yeah I for sure would do boiler over kros strain. There are various hotel options within blocks of boiler, plus you will be in the heart of downtown lincoln. You can walk to pretty much anywhere in Lincoln that is noteworthy. If you go to Kros Strain you will be in the suburbs of Omaha, and they are like the suburbs of Chicago, only even shittier if you can believe that.
