I think a Rum barrel variant would be interesting, so long as it isn't spice weaseled all to hell.

A friend on the inside has confirmed Dark Lord Bully Guppy Cuvée as the only variant.

I just wish that 3F would stop using sweet wine barrels like Muscat. DL is sweet enough alone. Last year I thought that Ronaldo was a dumpster fire of sweetness. I haven’t had FVM ‘17 but heard that it was a shell of ‘16. Hopefully the Dark Lord shows us favor and everyone gets a Handjee... OK, won’t happen but would be cool if it did.

I'm for it, and always for adding a little coconut when it comes to rum. DO IT!
This is all the rage right now. I don't think DB does much, but it would certainly pump the trade value out the roof.
Imma scratch another record right now, but I didn't think FVM '17 was that drastically different/worse than '16...doesn't mean I wouldn't have preferred 2 bottles of '16 over the '17 I got.

never tried 16, but FVM 17 is not as bad as people make it out to be. it's better than a 4.10 or whatever it is. now, if you waited too long on it that might be a different story. I thought it was pretty damn tasty though.

I had Ronaldo at the pub the week after DLD '17 and really liked it. Not sure if it sort of tasting like cherry kijafa and me being Polish helped, but I went in expecting I'd hate it. I agree that wine variants are typically the shoulder shrug for me. The Moscatel '13 I remember thinking it was just Dark Lord but sweeter without any additional complexity.

I’ll settle all of the questions about The Answer here.

IPAs: always have been and continue to be 100% brewed in house.

Joose: always have and continue to use Anderson valley gose as a base to blend and deferment with fruit.

Stouts: originally their stouts were made in the same fashion as the joose useing another beer as a base. Now and for the past several months they have been brewing their own stout base and adjuncting it.

I would like a return of the Port BA Dark Lord or Quit Hitting Yourself. Port treatments seem to work well with the DL.

FVM2 was a huge disappointment and I hope they move on from it.

Overall I would rather see more Barrel treatments with no adjuncts. Probably in the minority here but the Vanilla/Coffee/Hazelnut sweet trend in getting old.

Looking forward to some hair on my chest and less bitch shit!

Also would love to see Corpse!

I was also thinking more port barrel treatment but then I got to thinking that port is kind of sweet and DL is sweet enough. would still be interested to try a port BA DL though.

I drank the Orange wax Port variant with about 3 years on it and to this day it is still my favorite variant. Seems to actually cut the sweetness even more so than the bourbon variant does. The sweetest Variant every year seems to be the Handjee. I would personally like to see no Vanilla variant and see all the heads explode just like a Clayton Bigsby reveal rally!

I chose Quit Hitting Yourself, let it sit for a little over a year before drinking. It was very good!

I never had 2015 Earl but 2014 Earl with a year on it was actually not bad.

The recipe is slightly different between the two years though.

I agree. I have gotten FVM the last two years. While I still haven't had HJ (I don't know how it hasn't happened yet!) '16 FVM blew me away! Naturally I was pretty amped when I got it again last year, but it was a bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong, I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and would say it is a top not beer, just not as good as 16.
