So I've tried a few more Camden hells, and can definitely say the first one I had was a bad batch. It tasted nothing like it does now, and I actually do like it. Still not a hells tho.

Well, I know there are a few who'd be willing to help you by doubling-down on your ante!

My main complaint of most Ami-made Helles.

Hmm, I am not an expert by any means but a dry finish is definitely not something I think of in a Helles.

I don't recall getting that in this or any other beer. It's been a long time since I've had a Jever. I'll see if I pick it up in the next Alpenflo.

No, but that's usually not my biggest complaint on attempts at Helles -- though they could both be from similar sources. And not having tried the Alpenflo yet, I can't comment on the particulars of that beer -- my only source is what others are reporting.

I thought for sure I'd find this at Kahn's in Indy yesterday but no luck. I didn't read through the thread but are there any stores in central Indiana that have landed this?

There has been some discussion about whether a Munich Helles should have a dry finish.

I thought it would be worthwhile to consider what the BJCP Style Guidelines indicates on this matter:

From the BJCP Style Guidelines for a Munich Helles (style 4A):

“Overall Impression: A clean, malty, gold-colored German lager with a smooth grainy-sweet malty flavor and a soft, dry finish.”

    And:

    “Comments: A fully-attenuated Pils malt showcase,…”

    Cheers!

    @Sixpoint

To be clear, is this a year-round beer or a seasonal/one-off?

Just so I can plan how many cases I'll need to hoard...

Can't answer directly for the boss, but the Sixpoint web site has it listed under their year-round beers.

The sixpoint beer finder is very accurate and updated daily. I use it to find beers all the time. Indiana distribution on Sixpoint can be spotty. Also, I only see one place in central Indiana with Alpenflo on draft and no 12 packs.

Good to know. Never used it before. Kahn's has always been pretty good about getting their new ones in. I'll keep an eye out with the tracker.

definitely should have it near you this week, reach out to us direct if you can't find it

    how'd it taste?

95%+ of all of the attenuation will occur in the primary phase; lagering is almost exclusively for the cleaning up of the beer and maturation of flavor. We rarely see anything more than a 0.1-0.2% movement in the ABV.

    that's awesome, thank you

The specs of the Alpenflo are right within those guidelines as well

let us know if you have any further issues this week; we will be doing a full distribution roundup/audit early this week on our leadership meeting and this will be a main topic

    cheers

Oh ok, I was trying to exhale exactly while swallowing (through my mouth too if I recall correctly), and it just wasn't happening.

    Now I get it.

It still sounds like a lot of work. Especially if I'm pounding a liter of Helles.

I also get a distinct aroma when opening a German-styled pale lager, and also upon the initial pour.

It's not like a struck match to me though, more like a fresh ocean smell/nearly skunky, but still pleasant.

We might be waiting awhile for this side by side tasting.

Pounding? Isn't that why they developed and put Light AALs in cans?

Ha, well you more or less HAVE to pound a liter of anything. It gets very warm by the end if you don't.

If Sixpoint's app isn't convenient, the desktop version of the beer finder works too.
