The wrist bands are a great idea to speed things up and to take advantage of us drunk assholes who will have no idea how much money we're spending!

Can you provide more details? I suspect bottle variation is just being confused with personal preferences of those drinking it....

It was really sweet but honestly I thought each component of the beer was done really well. The barrel just wasn't the best. Enjoyed the beer quite a bit overall

Don’t joke about this! That’s how you end up with Sweet potato Handjee.

I actually like The Answer a lot and have enjoyed every beer I've tried by them. It's just good to know how they make them.

I don't think there's anything illegitimate about them. If you look at it related to the Bourbon world, they're basically beer's most famous NDP (NBP?). And apparently they're brewing more of their own stuff now as well.

Agreed. A few years back, I got the scratch off and opted for the Portuguese Brandy variant. I thought it was pretty good. Simple BA variant.

They technically did a Double Barrel Dark Lord in 2016 with Quit Hitting Yourself... Still sitting on that one, but when I had it last year it was tasty and underrated.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there Bob. '17 FVM was trash. A green peppery mess when I opened it on Black Friday, and '17 FVM compared to '16 made it even more disappointing. '16 FVM might be one of the best variants they've put out.

I think I've decided to bring my bottle of '17 FVM to DLD, so anyone interested can settle this for themselves by finding me.

    And there we have it.

Nothing against you and no offense intended, but whenever I hear "green pepper" as a descriptor, I tend to take that person's opinion on that specific beer with all with a grain of salt.

There seems to be a certain class of people with what seems to be genetic predisposition to translate certain flavors of coffee as green pepper. They don't quite seem to overlap with those folks who perceive cilantro as toothpaste, and I'm no chemist, so my thesis isn't peer reviewed or sound with scientific method, but I run into this pretty frequently.

I have two friends in particular who perceive a number of great beers terribly due to the green pepper phenomenon. One I've since nicknamed Sgt Green Pepper for this very reason, it's no small thing either, and seems like it really hinders his enjoyment of special brews, especially at bottle shares with numerous coffee stouts.

Yessss - I, too, wish to get to the bottom of this. There has to be a scientist on here, right? Someone! Someone do the science!

Coffee and green peppers both contain a nitrogen ring called 3-isobutyl-2-methoxypyrazine. This chemical gives a “green” scent, and I would assume flavor. It is not surprising that some people would be more sensitive to it than others. I myself often get a green pepper flavor from coffee beers, but have found that as they warm I sense less of it.

So the verdict is people who don't like FVM17 haven't let it warm up enough....
