Follow some of the GI Bourbon County fanboys, they will tell you all about the fruit additions making the beer better.

Guess you have never been to Germany. Outstanding lagers and pils at every turn. Also in March it is Starkbier season so all the major breweries in Munich have a great dobblebock on tap which is an outstanding lager. Finally many pubs/beer halls have gravity feed kellerbeer on tap from a wooden barrel which is also very nice. Nothing boring with any of these offerings.

I completely agree with you. Except for rum, raspberry, wine, chili peppers, hazelnut, moleasses, and bacon (aka hickory smoke). My top 50 favorites have those add-junks.

How about, 'it's healthy for children to be raised around adults engaging responsibly in adult behaviors. Problems arise when we hide adults behaviors (drinking, smoking, etc..) thus making them exotic and ensuring that our kids have no context for how to responsibly enjoy them.'
I never went to movies at the theater until I found one that serves good beer and food. Why the hell would I pay 12 dollars + just for a really big screen? Down with freedom crushing restrictions on drinking! I should be able to openly drink in public all I want, as long as I'm not acting crazy and causing a disturbance why is it anyone's business what I am drinking.
US drug laws (including alcohol restrictions) belie our insistence that we are a society committed to personal freedom.

I heartily agree about kids having a good role model in regards to drinking - but that needs to be family, and controlled in a way decided by the parents - not drunk strangers. The parents bringing their kids to a movie have the option of other theaters, at least until the other theaters follow suit. But the parents bringing their kids to the nearby church, martial arts school, music school, and arcade won't want drunk strangers setting a negative example for their kids. The theater was unanimously denied the beer/wine license by the city council last week. I was an parent/student/instructor at the martial arts school for 20 years and we occasionally had to deal with asshat drunks waiting to go into the movies, some ending up arrested for more than just being drunk.

I don't mind hazlenut and peanut flavoring. Molasses would be ok. I haven't tried enough wine variants to speak on that, but it doesn't sound like my kind of thing. There's endless things to add and I may find things that surprise me. As much shit as I talk on fruited stouts, I'd at least try a sample to make sure from time to time.

I've had some incredible raspberry/framboise beers. Also had a wine barrel baltic porter that tasted like grape jam. On the other hand, though I like blueberries, blueberry beer is a real bad idea. Sometimes wonder if I'm trying not to taste the beer.

There are a lot of fruity esters that come from English yeast and stouts are an English style. Also hops have fruity flavor components as well even English hops.
A lot of dark malts have dried fruit characteristics as well.

There's a lot of possibilities to build on.

Then you look at things like raspberry truffles or black forest cakes. Chocolate flavors go really well with berries.

I've made a handful of stouts, the best complementing flavors was a raspberry and chipotle stout. The tanginess, smokiness, and rich roasty character played very well together.

But really the problem is more the consumers and majority of brewers have no concept of subtleness. Used carefully it can add a great top or bottom note. But consumers don't want subtlety. They just want to be punched in the face with whatever flavor.

I've made a blueberry pie stout. Bready malts, spices, and all did make it taste like a blueberry pie. It was yummy. I only tried it once and the spices didn't age as well getting bitter as time went on.

It's possible that the lack of subtleness is the issue, you make a great point there. I'm not really into the dark fruit flavors in some stouts even without added fruit though, so it might just be my palate. I'll still try every beer I can when given the opportunity. Brewing only gets better as the science progresses

Not sure how controversial this is, but I think (as in every hobby) we need to be careful not to allow little folks whose lives revolve around alerting others to every little hangup in their sad and delicate little lives to bring down everyone else. If we aren't careful some of these constantly dissatisfied complainers will find their way into this hobby.

I find the problem to be fermentation, actually. Once you take away the sweetness inherent to a fruit, which is essential to cooking with it, you end up with something very different. Let's just put it this way, I'm not saying that it's impossible to make a stout whose flavor is improved by the addition of fruit, but the difficulty in doing so is high.

I hate people who like things, including beer, I don't like. This causes manufacturers, including brewers, to concentrate on what others want instead of what I want. It is quite irritating for me to find that companies, including breweries, produce products in the quality I want, but not in the styles I enjoy. All things should be designed for my taste, and everyone else should learn that my opinion about things, including beer, should be the determining factor in all ways.
