I don't think these two lines are consistent. Any time you reward people being in line early, lines generally get longer.

 

While I know there wouldn't be enough for all in attendance, something like a punch card system like other beer events would be nice. I don't pretend to think that this would necessarily fit an event this large, but just wishful thinking. With that said, I never make too much of an effort to seek out specific taps, because of the line vultures who hover. If I come across something, it is just an added bonus.

 

I'll be sure to bring a hole punch just in case. There's havoc to wreak.

 

I really want to figure out how Taos work this year. So, is each tent different? Or are they all essentially the same?

For a variant, I think Shoyu Ramen would be amazing. Corked with a wax-dipped soft boiled egg.

 

Sorry if this has been asked, but does anyone know if these were tapped throughout the day starting in the morning or did the start to tap them in the afternoon? Being Group E, I would prefer to get there later in the day and not when the fest starts.

 

I know that at least one of them (Ronaldo?) was tapped just around opening of the festival. I remember getting a tweet notification about it, and I think that was the only notification I ever got (either due to them not tweeting...or me having too many pours sharing with people).

 

I think they start as soon as the doors open and it continues randomly throughout the day. random times & tents.

 

If you are trying to figure out a pattern, just remember, this is 3 Floyds. They never do anything rational or the same. All taps are completely random.

 

The internet was also terrible.

 

I will stick to my plan and show up at noon.

 

Variants are tapped randomly throughout the day. There is really no rhyme or reason to it. I do remember workers at the main beer tent by the taproom saying something "special" was being tapped at 1pm last year. So my friends and I waited and got in line right at 1pm and they tapped ChemTrailMix.... It was glorious.

 

I'm with you, dude. I have group E and have never been to DLD. I'm not sure what my gameplan is, honestly. I just don't want to get there too early and be obliterated by noon. My thought right now is to go early for a couple hours, leave and rest of up and come back in the evening for a couple hours.. We'll see..

 

definitely keep in mind that while you are there to enjoy the fest and beer and have a good time, getting too wrecked to be able to pick up your bottle allotment would be absolutely worst case scenario.

 

Indeed. I'm also going alone.. Fortunately I grew up in Schererville and can have my parents come and scrape my drunk-ass carcass off the ground if need be.. They will be on immediate stand-by

 

lol come on, you should definitely show up too early, and be obliterated by noon.

I've stayed through to the end 3 separate years, don't be an idiot and you'll be fine. Having a small taster glass and being able to say no will be more than enough. Stay semi-lucid, and you'll be better off than 95% of the rest of us.

 

YMMV. I've gone early (ie line up before gates open) and "later" around noon. I personally like to go later in the day because:
1. Bands usually don't start until the afternoon (maybe 1PM?).
2. Potential to witness drunken shenanigans (ministry of funny walks and whatnot).
3. Rookie crowd that arrives for gate open will be clearing out.
4. Potential to glean some fest info from social media.

Downside is that the merch is usually sold out.

 

They have them late. Obviously the longer you are at the fest the better your chance of seeing something, that is just playing the odds, but as a chronic group E'er I've been pretty lucky late in the day with variants.

As great as the whole day is, and the whole entire day can be great as long as it's not 35 degrees and raining, it's quite possible the most fun I have had during each and every year occurred during the early morning lineup phase.

If you've never been to DLD and you don't do the main line share, you only get half credit!

 

at least when it's raining, you can piss your pants and no one will notice. the line to get in can be brutal, though i think they started putting port-o-potties in the line to get in, can't member.
