Hmmm. Post was about breweries in your specific area, not brews in distro. Top 10 or 15?

On a more serious note, Fort Collins has a always been a pleasure to visit!

I was going to let this one go, because this topic comes up from time to time, but I’m sitting at the bar in my local grocery store (that’s right) sipping on a nice Knee Deep IPA, it’s 70 and sunny out, so at least for today, the best beer drinking area in the US is right friggin here!!!!

Loved living in Denver, as FC was a nice little day trip. Would be even nicer now, though.

I've never gotten any rude treatment from anyone in NYC. Everybody's been super nice and a lot of times went out of their way for me, which is always unexpected. Excited to be going back in about 6 weeks!

Greeting people and locals with a smile always got me great welcomes and treatment. Sure, some idiots here and there but I guess being genuinely nice never hurts.

Well within Portland Or area (less than 45 min) there are at least 80 plus breweries then you have to add in every restaurant and taphouse that carries beer from the entire state and region. I don't see much competition

This thread might as well just be "Which city do you live in/near?"

My reply excepted of course.

Things ARE getting better in central Wyoming. A brewery in Douglas, Glenrock, 1 in Casper with 2 more to open before the end of the year.

There are exceptions of course

IMO, I think most "beer cities" in the US are what you make of them. If you go to the wrong places even Portland, San Diego, Ft. Collins, etc. can be disappointing. That's compounded with larger cities like Philly, Chicago, LA, etc. where they can feel like a full on beer desert in many areas. At the same time, cities like Tampa, Atlanta, Santa Fe, and Phoenix can feel like Bamberg if you know where to go. With distros reaching across the country more and more, the difference between good and bad beer cities is smaller than ever.

Well, I do live about 250 miles away from PDX, so you don't mean me, riight?

Although, with the way they drive in Boston, that might be a 45 minute drive. Although, now that I think about it, between the BLI and PDX airports is only about about a 40 minute flight, so maybe.....

    Is that really possible!?!:grimacing:

Chris, I will get back to you after my upcoming visit to Portland. I read where some BA posted that he even can drink high quality craft beer at his local barbershop. How cool is that!!

    Cheers!

We have 2-3 places like that here and I don't necessarily think we're on Portland's level...although we tend to cheat and consider everything from Ft. Collins to Co. Springs as "Denver." We're full of transplants and literally every single person from anywhere swears that wherever they're from is the best beer town in the world. Admittedly, Portland has a VERY strong claim, but I've heard it about some places that aren't even as good as my own neighborhood.

You had me until this last bit. If you can't easily find a great (not just good, but great) beer bar or brewery in a big city like Chicago or NYC, you are either mentally deficient or you're just not trying. Great ones are harder to come by in smaller cities just because the demand is not as high for them from a population standpoint, but the ones that are there should be no harder to find. In this age of readily available information, there's no reason to struggle to find great beer and a cozy place to enjoy it. They are everywhere.

Jack, when are you coming out? We have several, regularly updated, "Visitingxxx" threads in the NW forum. The Spring PDX thread should be up soon, and here's the Winter version: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-winter-2017-18-update.551544/

Feel free to post specific questions in that, or the Spring thread, or post a thread with specific questions. I'm certain our PDX BA's ( @John_M , @vurt , @maltmaster420 , and even a WA guy @NWer) can get you great details.
