Geez who would have thought the group here would come up with 48 pages of controversial opinions and complaints about such a simple thing as beer?

I would agree especially for beer. Really you want $1 for a $5 pint? What did you do? Pull a habdle and hand me a glass? Makes me think I need to be a bartender

I leave a dollar cause they make 2.15 an hour and live solely on tips. Personally I think they should raise the price of the pint to 6 and get rid of tipping on beers. That way they get a good wage and everyone gets to pay into the tax system just like the rest of us. I worked in the resturaunt business at a diner and some nights I made 20 an hour and others I made 5 an hour. Very hard to live on the latter. Would have loved to make 10 dollars an hour in 2007 (college student).

What I find sad is people who tip "to ensure prompt service". Though if everybody else is tipping it seems rater pointless

People would leave a dollar anyway unless they hung up a sign "no tipping". Oh and bartenders might be the one place they can justify paying $2.15 an hour. $1 per drink can add up quick as fuck on a busy night.

I worked hard cause I made tips, then again I'm not tipped now as a nurse and I still run around and try to make everyone happy. I think gettig the right people in the building is key and my favorite business saying is "Pay peanuts... get monkeys". If a bar or resturaunt offered a livable salary I'm sure people would work hard even if not going for tips.

Yeah if you are getting a dollar from everyone matter what because it's agreed upon then it doesn't matter really. In fact I think I should stop tipping if I don't have a beer in my hand within 60 seconds of plopping my ass at the bar especially if it's not busy. That is so frustrating. Hey there are 3 other people at the bar you looked me in the eyes when I walked in .Just take my order

I know a lot of people that don't leave a dollar per drink or leave 20 percent no matter how good the service.... the tipping system is stupid and it's pretty much only left in the states. Most of Europe there is no tipping cause the salary of the server is already worked into food and drink prices. Everyone pays taxes. Nobody hides money they made.

Yes it is fucking stupid. I hate it makes me feel so awkward. If I sit directly in your face at the bar you have to move less so do I tip less. If multiple people are serving me like at an Indian buffet where everyone seems to take part in helping who gets the tip? You dont need to ask me how I'm doing every 30 seconds the answer was the same as last time. Sorry it just creates an awkward situation. You're telling me the bartender at a beer only establishment deserves $1 per drink while the guys at Culver's who bring your food don't?

Speaking of tips and nurses, with the birth of both my kids, I had a bowl of candy in the room for the nurses. Whenever we need something, the nurses always seem to be more than happy to stop by.

@sportscrazed2 why don't they both? Or just get rid of tipping and give them both a livable salary.

Yes food is always a nice gesture but not expected. A patient's sister made the unit fresh baked bread and brought in butter, the unit was in heaven. Reminded me of @utopiajane .

Hate to break it to you, but the beer in theatres thing has been going on for a loooong time. Around Metro Denver there are maybe 5-10 theatres that serve beer already. Hasn't stirred up any controversy or trouble just yet

The only problem I see with the idea is having to get up to pee a couple times during a long movie. Other than that, kind of like watching a movie in the comfort of your home.
