Right, I mean, I don't know of anyone that comes out of town for it, but if you're a local, it's wildly popular

Here’s a question… I’ve been going for a few years now, and I’m still thinking through it. With the current price structure, what would you say is the cost of a Dark Lord base?

I have a few friends that, no matter how limited things are, we trade $4$.

Here’s my opinion. About $200 per ticket (after fees). $30x4 for the base, $40 for the fest, and $40 for the variant “lotto”. Thoughts?

Before all-inclusive tickets Dark Lord was $20/bottle, and $50 for the variants.

    $30 for 4 bases
    $60 for variant

The fest price is built into the bottle cost so don't charge separately for it.

When I trade DL, I usually consider $25 to be my cost. But, your $30 example make sense as well.

    DISCLAIMER: FACTUAL SPECULATION

I've used $25 per regular, $50 for variant, and $30 for festival, based on per bottle pricing in past years (when bottles were paid for in cash and variants were "won" by scratch-off). Of course, if you go with $30 per regular and $60 for variant, the fest is "free" this year.

Edit: damn are we all taking shit-breaks right now?

Pre-Hawkind Lemmy? Nice! Didn't know that existed. That's some nasty guitar. The tribal hippy drums are a nice timestamp on top of those psych-metal leads. I wonder if he got kicked out of this band too for ripping too much speed. I'll be checking out the entire album momentarily.

I lucked out a couple years ago and was on-site when fff released some of the previous years DL...it was $20 at the kiosk

Back when bottles were not included with the ticket the pricing was as follows:

    $20 per bottle of Dark Lord x 4 = $80
    $50 for the BA Variant
    $40 for the ticket

    Total: $170

So there is a $10 increase in there somewhere. The variant is honestly the most valuable part, it has never been worth less than $50. In prior years, the price increase has typically been the ticket cost itself, not the cost of the beer. So IMO you should value the ticket at $50, variant at $50, and 4 bottles of DL at $80 as the base cost.

It doesn't make sense to include ticketing fee's in the cost of the beer when determining trade value IMO, because then you might as well include gas money and airfare and other stupid stuff like that. However, people may include taxes in their $4$ price, so $25 regular, $60 variant is a fair $4$ valuation.

I can without hesitation endorse Beer Geeks. The owner is a really easy going and knowledgable guy (bonus that he has Twilight Zone tattoos), the atmosphere is relaxed, they do fun events (homemade ramen and Wu Tang vinyl night), and there are 20+ craft taps, and cocktails. Caveat that it'll be pretty busy.

There are some places in NW Indiana that I don't think I would if I lived in Chicago. Twincade in Griffith only gets a pass from me, because there are no other places like it in our pocket outside of Chicago. Geeks on the other hand really stands out.

Thanks ToolBrew, as I totally missed the Modern Times event.

Yeah, it’s not 2008 anymore. Every week is craft beer week in Chicago now.

Anytime! Beergeeks is a great spot! I recently moved from Chicago to NWI and bounce back and forth between there, Windmill and FFF...

Would you guys accept all variants with no adjuncts if the only stipulation was that they could not use wine barrels?

Yes, 100%. Rather take an apple brandy or bourbon DL over the probability of getting some wine bullshit DL.
