Hope it works out better for him than it did for George.

Hey, Short's Fans, It's time to get your sticky on! No, not that Sticky the new one:

Cracked one of these the other day and the aroma is really intense. And either my palate is hopped-out or this is one smooth and balanced DIPA. Didn't get much bitterness to it at all.

Except pine is a different tree. Had you said spruce needles I might have agreed

I agree entirely - that aroma just about filled the room. And I also thought this was very balanced and smooth (although my last two six packs before this were Enjoy By and Waldo’s so I thought that had something to do with it seeming so smooth)

I’m not always for such a smooth beer (I like my DIPA’s with some punch/bite) but it is solid and another good Shorts beer!

I wondered if anyone would mention that. Just re-read my post, but when you see “pine” replace it in your mind with “spruce”.

I do love me some Spruce Pilsner, but didn't they have a rough go brewing it last year which delayed the release and reduced the quantity?

Yes, last year it was in a variety pack and in 2016 it was delayed, cut, then readded at a reduced amount. Which is a shame because I remember there being so much in 2015 I was able to get it from July to almost October at the local Busch's. But having a TBD slotted for Spruce makes sense, if it isn't ready they can easily substitute a more reliable brew into the schedule without disappointment. I'm pretty sure that's also why they've gone to releasing quarterly updates instead of the full year: they want to change it up, no one gets let down.

Grabbed a sixer of sticky boots. Decent, although I prefer some other IPAs from Shorts. Can't wait for Freedom.

What's the deal with Lemon Hop Stand? Distro? I don't see it on the release calendar. And I don't believe my local store got it in when they received Sticky Boots yesterday.

I've only seen it in two different Family Fare stores. I have a feeling it might be exclusive to them. I know they've done exclusives with Family Fare in the past so it's a good possibility.

    Yep:

So, a similar situation to Citra Local's, which is a Busch's exclusive. Both are available at S-Mart when released, too.

I had my bottle I picked up today and I'll just say I prefer Citra Local's.

Grabbed a 12 pack of Huma cans canned on 4/12 yesterday. So fresh and so good! I wasn't aware they were doing 12 pack cans of Huma.

Just looked at a Sticky Boots bottle date in my fridge. 3/13/18.

I swear this hit distro last week. Is shorts having any distro problems getting stuff out? I'm on the east side.

Really hoping this doesn't affect Freedom.

That's sad news, as I was really looking forward to Sticky and it still hasn't even hit the UP. Why was this bottled a month before it was released? Never seen that before for a specialty release from Shorts...

Pure, 100% speculation here, and likely talking out of my ass, but...

I've been paying pretty close attention to these releases. Generally they hit the pub then distro within the same week if not the next. Same with Sticky Boots, it didn't show up at the pub until last week (same bottle dates), then Meijer shortly thereafter. Issues with distro wouldn't delay getting it to the pub.

My hunch is it was pretty boozy out of the gate and needed to mellow. I've found lots of Short's stronger IPA/DIPA's to be pretty boozy super fresh, and honestly felt many of them have tasted better with a couple weeks rather than within a day or two.

Makes me wonder if the Most Excellent Stellar, which I'm pretty sure is in the next variety pack, may be having the same issue and holding back the next variety pack release as well, since the other three beers have been at the pub for over a week.

Again, this may be total B.S. but I've been eagerly waiting for the next variety pack and makes me wonder a bit.

I don't think that's BS at all. Short's brews many IPAs/DIPAs and I personally think that these two styles benefit having 2-3 weeks of conditioning after fermentation, whether that be in a conditioning tank or already in bottles/kegs. I think someone at Short's has said in the past that this 'delay' does occur for that reason.

There also may be a factor of two beers being done at the same time, and I doubt that they want to overload the stores with two releases at the same time. It's spreading out the outflow of cash from my wallet.
