Reserve has no coconut extract. We used real coconut in the reserve AND the triple (which we actually barrel aged... as in the coconut sat in casks. It was a pain in the butt of a process). As someone who doesn’t like coconut, I also thought the TBBB was way over the top at first, but it’s really mellowing out. But that’s why we made the reserve like we did. It’s way more of a balanced flavor that brings out the rum. If you like coconut, but not the intensity of TBBB, you should definitely try the reserve.

Found Baptista as a shelf turd and decided to buy based on name recognition. Was a bit let down, was expecting something like a flavored Abyss or Parabola.

Seriously? BBB is one of the best BA stouts in existence.

You misread my post if you thought I was knocking Big Bad Baptist. I said "I thought Big Bad Baptist was delightful."

I said a blend could potentially cover up brewing mistakes, as a general comment. I don't think Big Bad Baptist has any though as I really enjoyed it. I had Baptista since my original post and wasn't as big of a fan (the chilis peppers got me). Having a blend with heavier coffee and lower chili peppers may make the reserve even better for my palate.

I would try it out if the price is right or maybe as a sniffer. Honestly I am worn down with the Barrel Aged trend, it is almost as over the top as NEIPA in my humble opinion. It was fun when just some beers with BA, now it seems like everything is in order to cash in on the premium charged for them.

Will this be distributed to the Carolinas? I'm in upstate SC and never see anything from this brewery but wouldn't mind driving up to Asheville or something

triple barrel was $18.49 ... I was told it would be more than that...My guess is $21 or $22?

I still enjoy BA stouts, but I've learned that a barrel doesn't cover up the shit flavor of a beer with too many additives. Don't get me wrong, some beers pull it off. But I generally don't need blueberries, maple syrup and bacon to make a stout palatable to me.

I agree. At times I really enjoy some of them but honestly I love a simple tasty beer. Sometimes I think less is better if that still holds in this beer market lol. Seems like the new trend is "all in"

Yeah, I got pulled in by the FOMO monster and still will from time to time. But I'm learning how great a simple beer can be. So many hyped beers have been disappointing to me in the stout world lately.

Triple barrel baptist was the best new beer of 2017 imo.

Just throwing in my 2 cents, but I found triple barrel lacked balance. The smell was fantastic. Had all of the components. But they weren't blended in the flavor. I could clearly taste each one staged throughout the sip and they weren't complimenting each other. It was still good. I still think I like Baptista better.

@Anthony1 do you anticipate Reserve Baptist getting any distro? Or is this one staying at the brewery or in Colorado ?

FWIW...We only had about 100 cases stay here in Utah...So if it was the same at the Colorado spot, close to 400 cases were shipped out.

Yeah, I’m certain it will get around but I think I heard most distro will be 5-10 cases. Unsure though. I’ll check back when I find out.
