This is a great resource, thanks everyone. Quick question...if you had to narrow it down to the top 5 breweries to visit, is there a consensus on the top 5? I'll be in town the first weekend in May and will definitely be visiting a handful. Location is not an issue, just looking for a list of the must-visit places

Most beer nerds would say Superflux is the best brewery in Vancouver but they're a nomadic brewery. You can get their cans around town and usually on tap at Alibi room.

Rounding out the top 5 you'd probably hear most people say Luppulo, Brassneck, Four Winds and Twin Sails.

Bar-wise the best places are Darby's Gastown, Alibi and Bells & Whistles.

Hmm, I don't even think Superflux themselves would say they're the best brewery. One of the top breweries on the West Coast in all of North America making IPA (imo) sure, but not best overall brewery. Many reports of their P49 Brew Bros collab barleywine being terrible for example. I'd put Boombox in this range too, but they currently are not making beer. Soon!

As Ben pointed out, Superflux don't have their own dedicated space yet. It's brewed, by Superflux themselves, out of Strathcona Brewing for now. Hope to see em in their own spot with a tasting room one of these days. I'm not sure Strathcona even has Superflux on tap at all times.

Best bet to try the most range of Greater Vancouver beers are at the above mentioned Alibi Room, Darby's Gastown, and St Augustines. Bells & Whistles is great too but rotates far more often with less taps and sometimes will have more imports on, given the day.

I'd say about the same breweries to visit for quality and experience. Luppolo, Brassneck, Four Winds (in Delta mind you), Twin Sails & Yellow Dog, Dageraad is highly under-rated and so easy to get to by train. If you like Saisons and Belgian styles this should be in your top spots to go. Strange Fellows would round it out for me, and 33 Acres is a short walk from Brassneck too. Sorry that's more than 5

Johnny has pretty much summed up all the best ones, but here's a few more to consider as well:

I really like Parallel 49. usually about 40 beers (Everything from 3.5% raddler to BA RIS on right now), with guest taps, small patio and built in food truck. their .3 pours are generous.

Callister is a cool spot and Canada's first Co-op brewery. Meaning there are 4 breweries under one roof, including Real Cask which is run by an English gent who brought his home country's beer style with him here.
If you're looking for cool art and nice folks this is a good spot. If you're looking just for the best beer available, maybe not (though this is where Superflux and Boombox got their start mind you).

Powell Street Brewing, is 2 minutes from Callister - they won Beer of the Year at the Canadian Brewing awards their very first year. I am never disappointed when I go here. Smaller selection, great staff, good prices.

If I had only one spot to drink beer in Vancouver it would be the Albi Room though. You simply can't go wrong there.

For Eastvan/Commercial you might want to add East Van Brewing and Viti Broadway (Nanaimo and Broadway).

For Mt. Pleasant, R&B Brewing, Faculty Brewing and soon(?) Electric Bicycle Brewing.

Callister was definitely on my list. The concept seems really cool, and the location looks like a manageable walk to other places like Parallel 49, Powell, Luppolo, Strange Fellows and some nice food options in the area. I'll probably spend an afternoon just in that area alone.

I'll probably post again in a few weeks when I'm in the area looking for some tips on finding Superflux or Boombox taps/cans, but otherwise you all have provided a nice list of places to hit while I'm in town. Thanks everyone!

You may be in luck, btw. Boombox is doing a collab with Twin Sails this week. Should be ready by the time you get here!!!

Any tips on finding Superflux or Boombox this weekend? Looks like Darby's Gastown has Colour & Shape. Would prefer to purchase for on-site consumption as opposed to off-sale as I'm only in the area for the weekend and likely don't have the means to take cans back home with me.

Boombox has only done a small amount of collaborations, nothing on their own for months and none of the collabs are available for purchase right now (other than maybe Pablo kicking around somewhere). Superflux you should be able to drink on premise at Merchants on the Drive. Alibi usually has a keg or two of their stuff too.

12 kings just tapped double infinity citra, and looks like they have pretty much yeah on (http://www.12kingspub.com/craft-beer.html) . darbys kits and gastown has colour and shape on (https://www.darbys.pub/menu/beer-on-tap, https://www.darbysgastown.pub/menu/on-tap)

if you do goto gastown, hit up that peche mortel and fingerpaint if they're still on. good luck!!

Not sure I'd trust that 12Kings list, if current those beers are pretty old now.

Legacy Liquor Store had Happyness as well as Colour and Shape in single cans last time I was there. Might still be some left.
