Barrel-Aged Righteous Rye Ale from Sixpoint...

From nose to palate, presents lots of chewy caramelized spicy rye, a deep, wet, resinous cedar wood impression, and hints of sweet vanilla bourbon... Medium-bodied, but with some rye heft; mildly carbonated, mildly bitter, moderately sweet...

My box indicated that Widow Jane barrels were used...

Starting off with a classic.


She's a bit outdated but still tasting great despite the overcarbonation.

Loved that one when I had it, my favorite from the Half Acre beers I've had.

 

Awesome again this year, glad they canned this again in 4 packs. Flavors of big blueberry, maple syrup, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, toffee, toasted brown bread, and light herbal hops. Light herbal/roast bitterness, slight blueberry tartness. Medium bodied; nice creamy/silky mouthfeel, touch of roast malt chalkiness. Slightly drying. Really nice malt complexity and well balanced with the blueberry/lactose/cocoa nib flavors. Very flavorful for the 5.2% ABV. Still plenty of 4 packs on the shelf. Will keep grabbing singles when I can.


Got this from @jdell15 in last year's NBS BIF. 2nd bottle with the ~1 year later 12/29/16 batch dating than what I reviewed. This was fantastic! Great head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, molasses, raisin, plum, cherry, sherry, rum, brandy, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, coffee, leather, and tobacco. Very mild roast bitterness and spirit/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Mild carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak, tannins, or dryness. Dangerously smooth sipping, minimal warming 11%, zero barrel booziness. Loved this just as much as the single barrel brandy as expected. Very similar with some additional underlying spirit complexities from the mixed barrels. Super rich with perfect barrel integration. Minimal differences with the older batch.
