I've had '14-'17 multiple times over the last year or so. I though 15 and 17 were great each time I've had them, while 14 and 16 were shit (16 is by far my least favorite). Hopefully this trend of enjoying every other year doesn't continue this year...

100% agree. Someone shared Last Snow with me on the Jak's shuttle last year and it was exceptional. A very good beer, and a very good person to share. Would Love if Dark Lord Variant turned out that smooth and tasty.

I'm going to be "that guy"- cognac is a type of brandy, so you don't have to list them separately. The only difference is cognac is fermented from grapes (as opposed to any fruit) and comes from a specific region of France.

Sorry about that, back to the nonsense.

While we're at it, why are we separating Port barrels from Wine barrels?

14 is probably my favorite so far (out of 13 through 17).

True, but for whatever reason the variants using Congac specifically have been better than the ones listed as Brandy.

Because they’re completely different. Boom - charging from the sallyport with my incorrigible, indefatigable logic, I fortified its position in the rankings.

I think if FFF lists them differently then they're different enough to be categorized separately.

Have had it on two occasions, and I enjoyed it both times. Was it fantastic? No. Hell, average would be a better description, but bad? Come on. I will die on the "FVM '17 isn't a bad beer" hill!

Oh, I think I saw that on the map for this year - just south of the hip hop tent, right?

I have had 2010 on two occasions (at DLD 2014 and at our Dark Lord vertical share last year where we drank '04 through '17 Dark Lord) and it stood out both times as much better than any other Dark Lord around it.

Well, last year on this date we had just started page 90 of the thread, and we were all blissfully unaware of the variant issue that would soon befall us. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I do not think that there is anyway we get to 206 pages, even with the extra week. That is, of course, barring any wholesale changes to the procedures by 3 Floyds.

It's still early. Things should pick-up when the rumored DL variant bottles being for on-site consumption only is verified....

This is amazing. I’ve worked so hard to keep up momentum. I feel like I’ve failed you all. I don’t know how this happened.

    I’m sorry.

Totally baseless speculation (right thread for it), but I would guess that the cognac producers get pissy if you use the term interchangeably, because they're "special."

I heard they rehydrated some french oak barrels with underburg for a nice Hipster Barrel Dark Lord

I wonder if it is tastes or bottle storage variation, but for me 10 was middle of the road. In verts I've done 14 & 11 stood out

    14 was a standout fresh.

12 and 13 were worst fresh, but 13 got better while 12 did not.

17 was better than 15 or 16 fresh.

07 and 08 were the best fresh I ever had. Never got to try 04 or 05 fresh though.

09 was meh fresh and aged.

11 was great with about 2 years on it, but later become no so great.

04 and 06 were good with 10+ years on them while 05 was very oxidized (probably just bottle storage)

I say this every time it’s discussed, but 2012 had so much apple flavor, it was a welcome change of pace and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
