I concur with the best and worst above. One Black Friday a few years ago, Hoppin’ Frog released BORIS Van Wink, a stout aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels. There are not enough O’s in smooth to describe it. Last year, I picked up Jackie O’s Dark Apparition aged in scotch barrels. Not a fan. Those with whom I shared it at DLD seemed to like it.

I just had a 2015 as well. It was the best most drinkable Dark Lord I’ve had. I also had a 2016 and that was so sweet it was hard to finish. These were both split 2 ways.

 

I feel like we're in an alternate universe. Wasn't it just a short time ago that the consensus was '15 was the worst ever?

 

I can only speak for myself on this. I’ve had 2010-2017. 10, 11, 15 and 17 I thought all drank great. 14 wasn’t bad either.12 and 16 were not so great

Port Variants have been some of the best in my opinion, wine not so much. Very big difference in Port and other wine barrels. But you are correct in stating that it is port wine. I'll blindly take any Port variant available this year! Here's a vote for no vanilla or Coffee Variants. And commence bitching and whining that you can't flip them or trade them and god forbid drink them.

 

So I’m in group E. In the past I’ve been in much earlier groups, so I’ve lined up early, enjoyed great shares, got my bottles, and left fairly early. This year I plan to come later in order to make sure I’m not passed out drunk when it’s time to get my bottles. What’s it like later in the day compared with earlier? And by later I mean past 2 or 3pm I should say noon because my memory is pretty fuzzy by that time).

 

Party is going strong at 2 or 3 pm, it tends to start slowing down around 5-6pm and you can tell the crowd as thinned out a bit. But people are still bottle sharing. More people watching the bands around that time as some of the bigger names will be on by then.

 

'05 was the only hated bottle in our giant vert! It tasted terrible, like a leather shoe. Something was definitely up with '05 because '04 was just fine.

 

In 2016, I had a 2008 KBS, BCBS, and DL and I thought DL was the only one worth drinking.

I did not really like 14, and if I remember correctly, have only drank one bottle as a result. I won't profess to be the final word, but I will say that I opened a '17 in December and I thought it was excellent.
