If I'm going non-BA, I'd say fresh Hunahpu (maybe not this year's though) or Abraxas with less than a year on it.
As far as BA brews, I'd go with Pirate Bomb.

Madhouse is releasing el jefe on the fifth, it's a BA Mexican stout and is incredible.

Agreed but I can’t get past the cinnamon to really appreciate the pepper. Don’t give me wrong, it’s a great stout!

Ive yet to have a Bomb that was spicy to any degree, at $10 a bottle I’ll sure they just sit, here at least. Peppers have to be fresh to notice them, and as they age they disappear, at least the spicy part, you might get some poblano chili kind of flavor but that’s not the brewers intention.

I recently had a Prop 16 and a &+ side by side. The &+ was much more balanced and inviting. The Prop was more pepper-forward (but it sounds you like that).

I would second Xocoveza. Bomb is solid.

A spicy stout is not a stout. It's just a beer attached to a non-beer drinker.

Lol. What adjuncts are acceptable for you? Coffee? Vanilla? Coconut? Fruit? Nothing?

La Pinguina en Fuego is probably one of the best spicy stouts I've ever had. I don't consider most of these recommendations as "spicy stouts" since the heat is so subdued. I guess it all depends on your definition of spicy.

I'm glad you pointed this out, apparently I've been drinking drain cleaner this whole time.

My definition for this thread is "stouts with peppers". My preference would be "stouts that make you sweat at least a little bit". Have yet to find any.

I had the La Ping a year after it was bottled, it gave a nice heat though. I honestly thought if it were any spicier it would've just numbed my palate too much to enjoy the beer.

No added elements for me. I like it straight up. Give me a classic IRS any day over a barrel aged jalapeno, cardammon, cold brewed Seattle Joe Coffee blend banana fart stout.

I still think Brooklyn Chocolate Stout is the ultimate high ABV stout. I don't care what anyone says. It's all beer and it is a stone cold classic.

In all seriousness, they don't add chocolate to that? I peronally haven't tried it.

Prairie Bomb! is da bomb. Fantastic balance, definitely my favorite. Hunahpu doesn't hold a candle to it in my opinion.

Ok...so...I know it's not a Stout, but DFH Theobroma checks off (for me) many of the same qualities as a 'spicy stout.' Chocolates and heat, with a nice balance.

Not sure on it's availabilities these days though.

Per their website, there is no chocolate in it. Having had it, it is a good beer, but I think it comes off quite thin for an imperial stout.

    I miss this beer.

OP already mentioned the spiciest one I have had (Central Waters Space Ghost). I will second Pipeworks End of Days as one that you should seek out. The BA version from last year was very hot.

I don't find Stone Xocoveza, Perennial Abraxas, or Prairie Bomb! to be that spicy, personally. Bomb! can be, I guess, but it is a very batchy beer. I found the deconstructed four-packs that they just did a bit funny since every bottle I have had has been very different than every other bottle. Some are coffee-heavy, some are chocolate-heavy, and some are pepper-heavy (I don't think I've ever had a vanilla-heavy one).

Mexican Cake, Xocoveza, Dia De Los Serranos, and Chocolate Sombrero are all great.

It's okay to not like flavored beer, but you can't say it's not beer. Beer has used fruits, spices, honey, etc. for thousands of years.
