New Holland Dragon's Milk Mexican Spice Cake, Hunaphu, and Prairie Bomb (and BA Bomb) are all fantastic, but the best I've ever had was Against the Grain's Bo & Luke with chili peppers from their original variant pack. Perfectly blended the peppers with the smokiness from the base beer. Wish I had a few more of those sitting around.

I think that is the point of deconstructed bomb. 1 chocolate, 1 vanilla, 1 pepper, 1 coffee.

Yeah, I know. I thought it was funny since the regular Bomb! is almost always imbalanced one way or the other, so I was making fun of releasing essentially the same beer as the regular release.

My opinion disagrees! :stuck_out_tongue: I've found I can't age Bomb! at all, because it quickly starts tasting too much of raisins. Huna, on the other hand, becomes slightly less pepper forward over time and is generally more of a big, roasty stout in general, with accents of cinnamon & vanilla, instead of overpowering flavors. Great feel to the body and a beautiful appearance too.

Anyway, I wish we could make a list or even a sub-style that listed all of these together. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering them all and which I liked the most.

Aside from Huna, I'm on the Xocoveza bandwagon because it's consistently tasted exactly the same every time I've had it, and that taste is great and more drinkable than most.

I don't think Odd Side's Mayan Mocha has been mentioned--I thought the BA version of that was very good.

Prop 16 was unique to me because it was closer to a roasted chipotle flavor, which I've rarely if ever had in a spiced stout.

Wolf's Ridge Yub Nub, Mexican Siberius Maximus, and Big Bad Baptista are others that need mentioned.

Other than that, I have to mention Maple BA Huna and ChemTrailMix were out of this world, but, they're a bit inaccessible...lol.

Event Horizon Spectrum 4 from this most recent release. Probably the spiciest spicy stout I've had, yet is still well balanced and absolutely amazing.

I don’t remembering getting any “heat” from ChemTrailMix.

You're right, neither did I, but some people feel cinnamon to be spicy. Also, there's a touch of peppercorn, and, in this thread, there's such a strong theme of Mexican/mole spiced Stouts, which often centrally feature cinnamon even more so than peppers (Abraxas), that ultimately ChemTrailMix is pretty comparable.

STONE's "Crime" and/or "Punishment" (two different beers) are one of my all time most memorable and spiciest brews I've enjoyed. REAL Habenero kick in those.

Prairie Bombs! have been some of my favorites. 3 Magnets Kratovo Borracho and Breakside BBA Aztec were also pretty good too. Like the slight chili burn on the finish in these 3.

I still wonder what the point of Deconstructed Bomb is. Were they bored and drunk and it sounded fun, or was there a deeper reason like they wanted folks to compare the components? Or did they think it would sells some beer? Or was it to make us appreciate assembled Bomb? One thing they haven't done before (as far as I've seen) is sell packs of their expensive imperial stouts. I've seen packs of their cheaper beers, but maybe they wanted to test the waters and see how many would be willing to pay $29 to $43 for a four pack.

Hmm...as someone who tried the Deconstructed Bombs a year or so ago and loved them, I will play devil’s advocate and just conjecture that they knew they had a good thing and wanted to get them out to the masses. But I agree that the price point is a bit high. $35 would be more reasonable than $40+.

I've had chocolate and coffee and I was underimpressed. If they came out with them as a periodic release, I would not pursue them. I do wonder if you mixed all four if they would taste like constructed Bomb, but thinking not. I doubt they're expecting anyone to clamor for their being added to the lineup, so I'm still not sure what the upside is here.

Mex cake used to have heat. Now doesn’t. I’ve never found abraxas or bomb to have any heat. I really enjoy all three though

As for deconstructed - my local bar had them all on tap a while ago. I was initially excited because my simple brain thought “bomb variants wot you have not had before” - but yeah it seems like a bit of a pointless exercise. From what I remember I enjoyed coffee the most. Vanilla was my least favourite - there was a real artificial vanilla sweetness thing going on. None of them came close to “combined OG” bomb.

Side note - Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout - first American-brewed stout I ever tried and it blew me away. These days it may not cut it in uber beer geek circles, but will always be a special beer to me. And certainly no chocolate added

And come on guys - these additions aren’t “adjuncts”

Correct, they are add-junk. Adjuncts as a beer term are un-malted grains - so coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and peppers can't be adjuncts.
