Thanks for the replies. That makes sense, plus the adjunct flavors fading.

Am I the only one who thinks the Eventbrite system is absolutely horrible for these releases? Please Kane at least change these to lotteries! At least then everyone has a fair shot. I feel like the same people win every one of these things. Before everyone slams me here... I lost ANTEAD and was bummed but at the very least I felt I had just as much chance as everyone else. Is the issue internet connection speed? I'm thinking that has a lot to do with it. Perhaps a club that rewards members might be an option too. I don't feel "entitled" to anything but damn... this system is sooo bad.

It is essentially a lottery. X number of people log in at the same time and you get picked.
It is not a question of internet speed It is how fast you click. It appears that people on the App had more success. I am also convinced that there are bots that beat humans to checkout

The reason that Eventbrite is so frustrating and appears unfair is because people get the bottles in their cart and then lose them.

There is no perfect system but if asked, I would vote for a lottery.

At 11:57 I logged in to Eventbrite ready to go. At 12:09 I realized I completely forgot about it. I have a terrible short term memory. Sounds like I probably wouldn’t have gotten it anyway.

while completely anecdotal and based on a small sample, but on one of the FB groups, someone polled people who successfully got through, whether they used the app or pc/browser - and it was probably at least 3/4 via the pc/browser...

I'd like to believe it was bots, but with the rules, how would they even collect, and who's even behind such bots??

And to glenl's statement that if you have it in your cart you have ~8 mins to complete - it appears that either there is a flaw, or that's totally flase / or bad info they have, as both this forum, facebook groups, and the instagram comments are littered with people who lost it seconds after getting it successfully in their cart...

all that being said, I agree that a random lottery seems more equitable.

Ironically enough this is exactly why i prefer the eventbrite. Because i truly do have the same chance as everyone else that legitimately wants one. For some people lottery just screams, let me get 60 people who breathe near me and have them sign up for it. I dont do that, so my 1 entry does not have even close to the same chances as someone with 60 entries. Also then that person could win 5 or 6 times when I cant even get 1. Eventbrite, chances are if people win, they wont win more than 2 times.

Both arent perfect. I dont know if there is a perfect one.

Those people dont know what theyre referring to. When you refreshed the page you could select the tickets and "add to cart" but if you added to cart after they were all accounted for then it wasnt added. Those people have mistaken this for them being "removed from their cart".

Getting it into your cart is a two step process, you have to get past that first pop up screen to actually have it in your cart. It's not bad info just a misunderstanding of the process

You may be trying on one computer but that doesn't mean everyone else was. I had 8 people (sister, brother in law, wife, my office staff and me) trying to buy bottles All 8 were shut out this time. There has been an occasion where 2 people have gotten bottles for me.

As I said before I'm not complaining or calling it unfair. My opinion is that a lottery would result in less but hurt people

Kane really should go the bottle club route for some of their special releases. I cringe at some of the breweries doing bottle clubs as most of them are putting out lousy beers and doing it only as money grab, but the A-List breweries (of which Kane is a member) would benefit from a club as would their members.

there definitely are bots - their API is public but rate limited - "The default limit is 48,000 calls per day and 2,000 calls per hour"

ive posted code for this before on my old account but it was removed.

Yea youre right, and I get what youre saying but how many people did you ask to sign up for the lottery? Its a lot easier to sign grandma up for the lottery and drive her down to pick it up. Its a lot harder to explain to refresh the page at exactly 12 and click checkout the fastest. There has to be some level of dedication on the mules part to come through in the pre-sale and not just blind luck.

their API can be used by a number of programing languages to interact with the site as a logged in user - for example their python sdk. also there are libraries outside their API that can be leveraged to grab a checkout. so you can combine these available tools to automate rather than point and clicking.

to keep it relevant to kane - ddh sneakbox > imperial sneakbox.

This is why I favor the method they just did. Also the short notice for pick up benefited us NJ people at least slightly. I know there are some insane beer people that are probably travelling 100s of miles but oh well, if that's their priority I feel bad for them.

This is a great, often overlooked, point. People think a club would be great because they assume they will get a membership. If the memberships sell out in seconds and you don't get one, you're shut out all year.

As I have said many times, and I think most rational people understand, there is no perfect way. We do what we think is the best method for the beer being released and take as many factors as possible into consideration when making that decision. Lotteries are most fair probably, but they create a mountain of back office work here and there's no full time position dedicated to lottery logistics - so someone with a ton of other work to do has to stop doing that and handle the lottery. If we can come up with a better system, i think you might see us try a lottery again in the future.
