If you read what I said (They were symbolic with top shelf until bought out by Japan) I will never understand how people reply to a post without reading it.

I was drunk when I read your post if that helps explain it. Maybe I kinda skimmed it?

Good point. It a way it's a lot like engineering. You don't need science to copy what others have been successful at, even if it's no longer needed or a necessary way to do something.

No problem, I've been there myself.

I opened a Bo & luke variant a few weeks ago that had a small amount of beer between the wax and the cap. The beer was fine. Wax is no gimmick IMO.

I'd be interested in finding out more about this if you happen to have a link.

One appears in post #11. (some further discussion in a couple of the posts that follow)

I have seen four instances where Cantillon bottles, corked and caged and crown topped, have leaked. For the record all of them, even the one out of four that got a rusty cap edge, tasted fantastic. I have received one bottle with a crown cap and wax that leaked through the wax during shipment. This one was ruined by it.

Not saying this is a connected conclusion to above observations, but it is my belief that science is great to tell us how it will work, and then why it didn't.

For me, one of the truely interesting things in reading about how accidents happen is that when there are multiple layers of protection each them is going to be individually flawed in different ways. When all the slices of swiss cheese are layered on top of each other there can still be a hole in each individual layer such that they all line up, there's a single hole that goes through all layers and protection fails.

BTW, all of the Cantillon bottles I've got in the basement use cork and crown only. Do you remember which of their beers you had that used cork and cage and crown? I'm having trouble visiualizing where the crown would be used if there's a cork and cage rather than just a cork.

Ah, you are right, I wrote cork and cage reflexively, and in error, for which I apologize. They all were corked and crown capped, no cages.

Ahh, that's why I was confused. Thanks for clearing that up.

Seems like a good way to have mice chewing on your bottles in the cellar.

At the end of the day it takes me an extra 15 seconds or so to run a knife/corkscrew under the cap so I can pop the cap. I guess I am bonding and becoming more intimate with the beer
