I hope not, since Alpha King is not an IPA.

Tipping is bullshit, America should take on European traits and not tip at all or round up. Employers should tip workers what they deserve, not the customer.

I think there may be a 3rd kind of negativity - those who don't like the NE IPA "culture". By that I mean long lines for every new release/variant (which includes trading beers while in line), people bringing kids/pets to breweries, Instagram beer haul posts, complaining every new batch is not as good as the last batch, posting a 5 star review on Untappd after only a couple of sips, etc. Did I miss anything?

I enjoy the style but avoid the cultural aspect of it - it's fairly easy to do. I generally hit these breweries up during the workweek to avoid the weekend nonsense.

The best football in the world is played by the NFL. It's not even close really. No need to struggle with that one.

Starting to question the dividing lines nowadays. Because if Alpha King,Daisy Cutter, and Zombie Dust all fall into the same category then we need more categories

Isn't there an Extra Pale Ale category? I agree with you those, especially Zombie dust, and I'd throw Pseudo Sue on the pile, blur the lines.

I don't dislike the term entirely, but sometimes it's used too much. If 500 out of our 3000 breweries make an awesome ipa, are they all "world class"? Or must a beer win an award to get that title? I love many michigan beers, but there's maybe 1 or two I'd give that title. I'll keep those to myself though (don't want to start any fights:wink:)

On the one hand, I'm all for the new NEIPA category; but on the other there's bound to be overlap no matter how much you break things down.

LOL. Lots of US craft beer is bottle/can conditioned and not filtered and force carbonated. Then again, this IS the controversial opinions thread. So you win at that.

I did a comparative review of Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts once, with the big fish being BBA El Gordo, KBS, and Black Note. Black Note was easily third, so disappointing, not bad, but it really didn't measure up at all.

Outside of maybe Pliny, I have yet to find a West coast IPA that I enjoy. I found most beers from Stone to be meh.

I'll take East coast goodness all day.

Yes - the only meaningful American Football is played by the NFL junior - that’s pretty much my entire point.

And I’m aware of the farcical attempts in other countries (I had the misfortune of going to a Claymores game) to set up leagues, but the quality and popularity is so bottom tier, they’re barely worth mentioning.

So if a team wins the World Cup (in a sport that is the primary [or at least a major] sport in the majority of countries in the world, in a competition that any country can theoretically qualify for) - they can say they’re the best in the world.

If a team wins the Super Bowl (in a sport that’s only regarded as primary in a single country, in a competition that an international team couldn’t even theoretically qualify for) then I think it’s a stretch

Similarly - if someone tries a wide selection of pilsners from around the world, and wants to proclaim certain ones to be “world class” - knock yourself out (as meaningless as that is - still based on a subjective opinion after all)

But if someone goes to an onsite-only release of 200 cases of a one off DDH lacto sour ipa with strawberries, and proclaims the beer to be world class - who or what is that beer’s competition to be measured against, on a global scale?
