Looking forward to this one! I will be bringing extra Sriracha, just to push the limit.

Anyone know what time this is being tapped?

I love me some spices -- sriracha, tabasco, whatever. Taste your beer before you order the pizza, and no one will get hurt.

The Dark Knight Returns is amazing! Rich, oaky, with a little more than a subtle hint of bourbon. Roasty and chocolatey. On draft NOW!

Mrs. Biervogel and I will be heading there for dinner tonight. Don't kill the keg before we get there!

Dude there said he expected it to last until New Year's. $8.50 for 5-6 oz. or whatever the pour size is, $80 for a growler.

Damn, that's crazy steep. Guess I'll only be having one or two of those tonight, lol.

    Anyone know the ABV?

    Only 1.25 per oz?! Bargain.

Good for them though, they sell it all every year, so obvisouly the price is not an issue. It also ensures its around for a while. On the other hand, it also ensures the only time I will ever taste it is at the odd brewfest.

Should have mentioned. Dude (I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) said it was untested, but that he'd guess around 16% ABV.

crazy good but i'd rather have Surly Darkness at $18 a bottle than an $80 growler

At $9.31 for a 5.5 oz. pour (which is what I paid today:slight_smile:, that's $1.69/ounce. So that's 16.93 for 10 oz, or if one considers a 12 ounce bottle, $20.31. I thought it was very tasty, but overpriced, imho.

I thought it was pretty good last year. Worth the tick

Never understood The Dark Knight. Love several of Barley John's beers (their Little Barley Bitter is one of the best low ABV beers I've ever tasted), but the sample I had at the Great Taste a couple years ago tasted like lighter fluid. I need to revisit it...someday.

Had it tonight, and was absolutely delicious. Great, smooth bourbon flavor. Doesn't taste anywhere near 16% - I find that a bit hard to believe.

That said, it was one and done for me - way too spendy...

Slightly off topic, but does Barley John's counter-pressure fill their growlers or do they merely cap on foam?

I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I can share my experience with their fills. Last year I got 3 fills from Barley John's on Saturday night to open during NFL Sunday. The first two were pretty flat the next day. The third one, which was transported upright and stored overnight in the fridge, had leaked enough beer through the cap and shrink seal to leave a ring under the growler in the fridge. If others have had better results I'd be glad to hear it, but until then no more fills from BJ's for me.

They fill and cap on foam. Never had an issue with their growlers before.
