I'm a huge FW fan but that beer is one of the most bland Helles lagers I've had to date. Its more on the line of an AAL than Helles Lager in my book. They can put what they want on the label, but I'll trust my taste buds.

I'm 45 years old and have been drinking lager since I was 13. There is always Prima in my fridge along with a German import of some sort. I also drink AALs (Narragansett Lager is a staple in my fridge...always available). I may not discuss it, because there is not much to say....but if you haven't noticed the ridiculous uptick in people talking about the very unmentionable Hamm's, then perhaps you are not paying attention.

Solid Gold is not a fantastic beer. Here, the rating is "Good". And you won't find a better place to get a consumer read on beer.

I have mentioned it several times, and in this thread. It's a good pick. Only complaint is the price when compared to Solid Gold, but I like the Firestone better, so it's worth it to me.

Most of the time I drink by taste, not by price.

My local beer retailer's price for FW Lager is 12 bucks for a 6-pack. I will not be buying this beer at that price.

Unlike @Leebo I factor in price when I purchase beer.

    Cheers!

Yeah, I think Firestone's Lager is very good and I enjoy it. While price shouldn't matter to taste, I can't ignore that out of similar Helles [or American pale lagers/AALs] it's one of the most expensive. If FW put it in larger, budget-friendly format I think they would have a winner.

Well, it's sort of the entire theory of the OP (due to outside cultural forces dictating acceptability):

Yes,I hear you. Factor? Only sometimes. That single cut for $ 23..00 for a 4 x16 oz? Nope. Jacks Abby or Notch all the time. Lots of the JA is $ 10.00 for a 6 x 16 oz, Yes please.

Everyone seems to be talking about Founders Solid Gold, I picked up one can in a pick and a Sam's 76 to go along with it. I'm 67 and never much of a fizzy yellow beer man at any time in my life, but.......and there's that big assed word again, I thought Sam's 76 was much better than FSG.

Fair enough - your taste is your taste.
I enjoyed Sam 76, but it is not at all an AAL - much more of an American pale lager.

A lot of people would love to drink by taste but can't afford it these days with $16 4 packs becoming the norm

Someone who enjoys 2 beers a day would be spending $56 a week for that particular item vs $15.99 for a 15 pack of something like Founders Centennial. But whatever works is fine ...

Just because a beer is expensive doesn't make it good, conversely, just because a beer costs less doesn't make it bad.

Hamms is also a great beer. Solid Gold is a fantastic beer, and I don't need validation from Beer Advocate, which is in fact one of the WORST places to get consumer advice. Do you actually believe this is a good place to get a fair and unbiased viewpoint on beer? That's just silly. I will go ahead and take my info from the sales data and actual customer feedback.

    I enjoy AAL.

Hamms and High Life are my go to beers.

    I love craft too.

I have been back to AAL for well over a year now and really enjoy tipping 2-3 back.

Price wise they are great, $12 for Hamms and $15 for HL. At .4-.62 a serving it's great and still lets me but good IPA or whatever and stay in my $1 a serving goal. I just today bought a 30 of Hamms and a case of 60 min 3 week old cans for right about $44.

I think many more people here like AAL than will admit. I grew up in it and still enjoy it.

    Enjoy

So go for the 12 pack of Sierra Nevada, Jacks Abby or Notch. Thought the
Naragansett coffee milk stout was fabo this year. Beer? Try red wine, whiskey and mt bike $$ as well. Been sipping some mezcal as well. I don't a lot of bar stuff, saves some $$ as well there.

Sales data? So I guess you might be of the opinion then that Bruno Mars and Drake represent the best music our country has to offer?

But perhaps you are right, there is no accounting for taste.

You carry on thinking that Hamm's is a great beer and Solid Gold is fantastic - and I'll carry on judging everything you say with great suspicion. You can also save any response to this, as I know precisely what it would say.

    Hamm's a great beer....pfft.

Your POV is lazy. I am suggesting a reason, with admitted cynicism, but not stating what one should or should not do.

You drive out of state for Hamms?

Do you perceive a flavor difference between cans vs. bottles for MHL?

    Cheers!
