Do they still have barrels elsewhere? Given the choice, I highly doubt they would move full barrels.

SR71 is Assassin, no? It would stand to reason its resting in a barrel labeled Assassin, unless you're saying you know for sure the vintage on every barrel.

If you don't mind, can you explain? I saw here on BA that it says it is aged longer, but at least for the bottle release it sounds like they were aged in PVW barrels like 2014 Assassin. Is that true for all SR-71?

I suppose this is a more general question than for just you, as this seems pretty specific to someone with potentially inside information.

Only been 1 batch of ba SR71, original iteration of that beer was a non barrel aged stout. So unless someone knows what barrels current batch of SR is in it’s a wait and see answer. I would lean towards no the next batch will not be PVW.

Good point. From what I saw, all the barrels have been filled at the new brewery this year. They could have a few others ready to go, at the old location. This could be where this year silent KBBS release is coming from, as the maple barrels had just been filled a few weeks prior, and would not be ready to go.

BA SR-71 was simply left over Assassin barrels that Mike didn't use for blending Assassin that year due to perceived off flavors in those barrels.

So those barrels sat and were given more time to develop and the beer was called SR-71.

That's odd, maybe for a different beer, as it's something that's exploded this past year. I don't recall them mentioning using maple barrels for KBBS, only that MD used maple from their own farm that they smoked to extreme density, which is a beer that is then aged in bourbon barrels for KBBS...

Your right, first time putting KBBS in these. Word was a little iffy on weather or not these are just finishing barrels or the ones KBBS will be aging in fully.

I may be becoming a curmudgeon, but I feel like they shouldn't mess with the recipe without changing the name of the beer.

Agreed. But I think you might be on to something with them releasing it as a special version of KBBS. I could see them doing a normal run of KBBS, with a small amount of specialty bottles finished in Maple barrels, or something along those lines...

Went back through the twitters and on 4/18 Mike posted a pic of the Bissel barrels and said, "Brunch will finish nicely in these!"

Maybe I can get a BA Henna for one of these

Seen that a while back. Wish Mike would of been there to ask, as the answer I got about the barrels was very unspecific. @Hookstrat was most likely on the money with his previous comment, so I would error on the side that these are special employee, and rare sale bottles finishing.

Just from math, but one 55 gallon barrel equals 568 12 oz bottles if there is no loss. So if there ar 2-4 barrels of this that seems to align with how much they’ve released of KBBS previously. Seems like a normal sized batch of 1000-2000 bottles.

PLUS they could use those barrels to blend with non-maple barrels, furthering the output. An aside, my dad had some February run Sue hanging in his fridge. Still a really nice beer, albeit a bit stale.

They also tweeted it will be 22 oz bottles.

Why? Why 22oz bottles? Just why?

    That is just so...fucking annoying.
