Reduce HSA and be faster. That’s what I do.

I just brewed the recipe again last weekend, and did a no-sparge approach. The efficiency reduced by about 5-6% but it saved time, reduced the HSA, and will likely result in a better beer. The extra grain to account for the loss of efficiency only cost less than a dollar (slightly more than half a dollar). An inexpensive solution to a better quality beer!

Like I’ve said many times, I’ll never go back to sparging. It’s totally for the birds, enjoy your efficiency sheeple.

Looking back, this obsession for a few extra percentages of efficiency with extra work and time and a less quality beer, all for the sake of saving considerably less than a dollar, blows my mind. Had I known that it would only amount to such a little extra amount of grain, I would have converted to a no-sparge approach long ago. The "efficiency obsession mantra" is rampant and seems to be indoctrinating homebrewers needlessly.
