2012 Mill Street Barley Wine

    This year is aged 6 months in Jack Daniels barrels. Just had my first bottle tonight. Wonderfully surprised. Anyone else tried it yet? I guess we'll also have to add a new listing.

    past versions have been boozy messes for the first year or so. this version any different?

    I didn't find it boozy at all (even considering is 11.5% instead of 10%)

    I think the barrel aging has convinced me to finally buy a bottle of this overpriced beer that comes in a ridiculous ceramic container. Will report back after I try it.

    Agreed. I overlooked this several times when I lived out west, but the barrel aging has me intrigued and am definitely going to try to source this one out.

    Yes the ceramic bottle is a little much. (Not great for shipping.)
    I remember someone shipping a ceramic Beau's Matt's Sleepy Time and it shattered into a million pieces in transit. Just seems more gimmick than anything.

    I picked up 3 bottles total. One fresh, one for later and one to attempt to ship to Cali. I'll have to wrap that bastard good.

    The base barley wine I'd never buy again. After having it two different years I was planing on not having it again. The aging brought me back for another round. I wonder if this is their new tradition? If they do the same barrel next year I might start passing again on it.

    Barrel aged? I would normally never buy this beer but the barrel has me curious.

    I'm a sucker for barrel ageing so I grabbed one yesterday. I had the base beer last year and didn't think it was terrible, just not terribly impressive. I'm hoping the barrel aged version is better.

    Picked up a bottle yesterday and as korguy123 mentioned it is very smooth. I didn't pick up much character at all from the barrel aging which was disappointing. A tasty beer but I don't think I will be buying more at $13 for 500ml.

    $13 for 500ml now! You would think we were under a ceramic bottle shortage or something. Makes me nostalgic for the days when it was $11.

    Yeah, I would have really liked it to had more barrel character. To be honest if I wasn't told it was barrel aged, not sure if I would have known. Though that is just my experience, what have others thought? Can you taste the barrel aging? Also I have never had any of the past renditions of this beer to compare to.

    Not a ton of barrel in this one, but once it hits room temp and opens up, it's actually quite nice. Not $13 nice, but still enjoyable.

    I'm getting less and less interested as the reviews come in. Might not be worth the hassle of trying to procure a bottle after-all. :confused:

    Drinking my bottle right now. Not impressed. Not bad, but very average and certainly not worth the price tag.

    Meh.
