Dark Lord (2018)

Since everyone else is doing it... My list of preferences...which ironically could prob be read in reverse as the list of what I'm likely to get:

1) handjee (omg what really?)
2) Rye (would make me so happy)
3) Chem (Rye with stuff...still very happy, never got to try last year's so would love a side by side)
4) Brandy barrel Asian food (either gonna go well with the soy or make it 100x worse. Either way Brandy barrel FTW)
5) Twist on Mexican cake variant (tequila barrel has me iffy, but might be worth the risk)
6) Spaceforce (aka FVM w/different barrel. Researching the barrels, this one sounds less sweet)
7) FVM (see above)
8) Bro 1.0 (the not port one, see below)
9) Bro 2.0 (the port one, I hate port barrel stuff, but some people do I guess? So maybe my friends will like it)
10) Sherry (people cook with this stuff, who the hell drinks it)
11) 2 vintages (seriously, if I ask nicely maybe they will take pity)
12) Scotch (god oh god please say they made even less than last year. If I get this it is instantly up for trade. If you love scotch barrel stuff hit me up cuz I can't stand it. Had to drain pour goose island islay the other day, I'll throw in 3 of those with this turdle for any other variant)

 

Variant List preferences:

1. ChemTrailMix (this will be my priority in terms of taps)
2. Hung Drawn N Quartered (can you tell I love rye barrel aged beers...)
3. Marshmallow Handjee (The only variant I've ever had, would like to try something different)
4. Lounge against the MacroMachine (super intrigued, not sure the tequila will come thru at all with all these strong flavors, a good thing to me)
5. SpaceForce! (Cognac type wine? Sounds like a better barrel than what FVM is in)
6. French Vanilla Malitia (prefer the SpaceForce variant)
7. Greatest Teachable Moments (also very interesting, only if the ginger isnt overpowering)

These could be in really any order for me...don't know that I've had many wine barrel aged stouts, love dry red wines, but not sure I'll care for the mix of the two. Like scotch, but last year's variant got a ton of mixed reviews, so this scares me even tho I generally like scotch.

Let me know if you want other stuff added; Can't promise I won't go crazy day of and rename everything to push you all in the wrong handjee lines, but hope it's helpful.

 

this is pretty much how I look at it as well. Hanjee probably #1 but would be happy with any of top 7. the other 4 not so much.

 

From a benchmark perspective, for what would people trade their least favorite variant?

A) nothing. It is .rar and the Dark Lord decreed I must drink it.
B) top tier out of market stuff. Somebody doesn’t even know what’s in this.
C) a CBS. Get this filth away from me and let me have a consolation prize

Rye barrels!!!!! That’s all I want!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully there is lots of trading at the bottle pick up exit, cuz I need that rye in my life!!!!!!!

 

Trade value for the less desirable variants is always highest the weeks right after the fest as plenty of people are trying to collect all of them for full horizontal tastings. After post DLD hype has died down, people have done their tastings and have the bottles displayed on their shelf, and the next hype stouts are out, then the value will drop on many of them.

 

And once the value drops, you will have officially been "Turtledogged"

The past two years they have done 9oz pours and 16oz pours. Cant speak for anything prior to 2016 but I never saw a 5oz pour.

All beers I've seen are $5 except for DL variants being $10

I've taken them before when they ran out of Jaks. Well run and usually quality sharing onboard.

My plans have shifted a bit and so I may be grabbing a bus again this year. For $25 its a pretty easy, reliable option. thinking about hoping on the 10am or 11am bus so that I can survive deeper into the day/evening.
