16oz can - collaboration with Cigar City. Canned date of 03/09/18 printed on the bottom corner of the can. Solid nose and flavor with the crispness and spiciness of the hops that I have come to love in a good Pilsner. This is an Imperial Pilsner so it packs an extra punch compared to your lighter German and Czech pilsners.

A later than usual start to my NBS due to some rare Sunday training at work and a kids birthday party but on to the show!

I really wanted to open a beer from the most recent NBS BIF from @2beerdogs but an 0dark:30 alarm this morning is going to get me to bed earlier than planned.

My new beer today is Hop Cakes from NoDA. Canned at what I’d consider the outer edge of its shelf life for a DIPA (2/12/18). Let’s see how this turns out.

Beautiful copper orange with plenty of fluffy white head. The nose is all candied clementine or mandarin oranges. Intensely sweet citrus with touches of caramel. Damn, that’s a great beer! Sweetened dried mandarin oranges, concentrated candied orange peel. Hints of sweetness followed by an overall bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium but so drinkable for a big beer such as this. No burn or booze detected. I gave it a 4.49, +7.9% on the rDev. I really enjoyed this one.

Happy Sunday, BAs. Cool to see so many Brown Ales and BIFers in the thread this week. Had a busy day, and was thinking about skipping a post, but you've guilted me into it.

Despite a lot of chores and other family stuff, my wife and I did manage to grab a quick dinner at one of our favorite southeast PA brewpubs: Forest & Main. They're tucked into an old Victorian house with a bunch of classic British styles on cask, as well as a rotating cast of NEIPAs. They've also got great food and a hard-working, knowledgeable staff. We only make it a few times a year, but have always had fun there.

    First up this evening was...

An English Bitter called Five Ways to Cry. It was a lovely, hazed antique-bronze color with a finger of very creamy near-white head that left thick sheets of lacing.

It had a pleasant aroma of fruited black iced tea. I was getting berries and apricot. Some very light biscuity malt as well.

Dry tasting, with strong, earthy dull bitterness -- like raw black tea very light on the water and heavy on the leaves. A hint of the fruit from the nose. A nutty backend.

It was creamy feeling, full bodied, with almost zero carbonation.

A bit drier and earthier than I enjoy, but it was very drinkable and fairly complex. Next came...

An American IPA called The Canopy Inside. It was cloudy, banana yellow with a thin white cap. Modest lacing.

I picked up clementine and tangerine in the nose. Orange juice, pear and weed mixed in the taste. It also had a nice, firmly bitter aftertaste.

It was medium bodied with a strong fizziness to the feel. All in all, a very solid offering.

I doubt I'll be back with another new beer tonight. Maybe I'll catch you in another thread. If not, have a great week, y'all.

Rec'd this sample from the rep 3 weeks ago.

I just got home from a Tequila and Tacos Birthday Party/Anniversary Party where I drank a Ten Bends Rotary Chaos, Schlenkerla Helles (2), a 3 shot Espolon Margarita, and an Upper Pass Moove on Up on the drive home (9/10ths of a mile and past the Stowe Police station. Oh yeah, I had 3 tacos as well.

Moderate pour yields a one inch light tan head over a ruby brown body with no lacing. Head is gone in a matter of moments. Nose of diluted dark fruit, twizzlers, and not much else but some kind of sweet candy. Tastes pretty good with a weird kinda sweet candy finish. Okay feel and overall, I've never had a BW like this. Where are the hops?!?!?

12oz can into a sniffer. This is a different spin on one of the breweries flagship beers (Devil’s Chair IPA) with 700 pounds of blood oranges added to the batch. The blood oranges give the already solid IPA base an extra layer of citrusy sweetness that makes for a tasty brew.

Good evening, NBS. The week has been long and tiring for me. Glad to have made it to Sunday night. Today's new beer is nothing special, just something new that showed up at Trader Joe's. Airstream Unfiltered IPA by Full Sail.

Pours perfectly clear and golden. Spritzy head vanishes right away and leaves a ring. Disappointing so far.

Smells of not much at all. Some light grains, mostly.

Flavor is almost less. I wasn't expecting much from Full Sail, but c'mon! Also, watery. What is the abv on this? 4.8%? Ah...that explains everything. They should called this a session IPA rather then Unfiltered. So part my fault for not taking a closer look. But it also sucks as a session IPA.

Overall I should've left it on the shelf. I gotta think Full Sail isn't going to be around much longer.

I've been saving this one from @larryi86 for a little while. An oak barrel aged sour, refermented on peaches, raspberries, and mangos, from Tired Hands... sometimes the anticipation is part of the fun. The description couldn't put it any more firmly in my wheelhouse... I have to admit that hopes are high for this one.

Winter, from Tired Hands. Bottled August 2017.

Pours clear, and light brown. Really no hint of raspberries in the color. Fluffy white head quickly disperses with just the smallest amount staying behind. Nose is funk heaven. Definite stone fruit, some funk and hay. This is a monster on the tongue. Big wood, tart, with plenty of fruit late. There is a dirty quality, likely due to it beginning its journey as a saison as opposed to something like a golden ale. Long finish.

This did not disappoint, Larry. Thank you!

[IMG] Sometimes you have beer and know upfront it can’t possibly live up to its hype, well oh hell this one did and more. Absolutely blew my friend and I away and it was canned 4/16/18. Pours like pineapple orange juice with little head, blame my friend John for tilting the shit out of the glass like a total rookie, the lace left behind after each sip fixed it, really a nice looking NEDIPA. 4.5

Smell my first thought was papaya, guava, and my friend said passionfruit and grapefruit rind. Really an amazing nose. 4.75

Taste just knocks you on your ass, tropical front to back and side to side incredible flavor and I am struggling to say anything bad, because as another friend likes to say, is spot on. 5

Mouthfeel is a solid medium with a fairly soft mouthfeel, enough life, sticky from the crazy amount of fresh hops, and at 9.2% ABV so f-in drinkable. 5

Overall one of the greats in my mind, makes me want to drink more, but not easy to come across. I need to thank my buddy and show him how to pour a fine craft beer. 4.75

Another from Jackie O's that I've been sitting on since their appearance in Vermont almost a year ago.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a half inch tan head over a medium to dark brown body with some lacing. Nose of dark fruit, caramel, toffee, vanilla, and slight chocolate.
Taste mirrors nose to a degree with the chocolate coming forward and a bit of raisin sweetness appearing as well. Good feel and overall, a more than pleasant BA Barley Wine right here. Cheers!

Now at Boarder View Resort on Lake of the Woods. Grilling elk, and drinking new beer.

Detente from LTS Brewing in Rochester, MN.

I got this last summer when I first went to LTS. They suggested aging it till December. Well, it's May now, and it is a damn amazing beer. Great flavor raisin, and other fruit flavors. A hint of caramel. A pleasing alcohol burn on the backside. Really tasty, and a good beer to end NBS.

Finally getting around to posting as it's been another busy day. Working six days a week doesn't leave much time for resting on my day off.
Shared this one with my neighbor while our kiddos ran off some energy.
Picked up a couple of crowlers last Sunday while in Charlotte, glad it's held up. Heist has definitely dialed in the hazy, juicy IPA game. When I told my wife I stopped last week she asked how it was, I told her I liked it as much as Trillium. She's not a beer drinker but knows how much I like Trillium. After my neighbor's first sip he said, "Damn, that's very Trillium like". Pretty good compliment in my book!

    Heist Brewey UberQuench'l
Pours a hazy dark orange apricot color with two fingers of dense white head.
Smells of tropical fruits, pineapple, papaya, mango, some sweet citrus.
Taste follows, mango, peach, orange, papaya with a hint of grassy dankness that balances the sweet tropical juiciness.
Medium to full bodied. Very smooth feel. Alchohol presence is non-existant when cold but makes it's presence a bit as it warms.
Overall a great beer that I rank right there with the heavy hitters from NE.

Having this one as a nightcap while I caught up on today's thread.

My first brew from Free Will received in a ninja attack during the NBS BIF from @CanConPhilly thank you sir.
    Free Will Stay Tuned
Pours a dark brown almost black with a healthy two fingers of mocha head.
Smell is dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, tobacco, hints of charred wood and leather.
Taste follows with the roasted malt and chocolate dominating the palate. The coffee and tobacco dance in the background.
Medium to full body, good carbonation level.
Overall a tasty beer that hides the double digit ABV quite well.
