It was indeed another great DLD. I was surprised that they inspected the bags as much as they did. Still brought in way over 72oz so they weren't checking too hard. Those variant lines were insane. More POS for those would've been nice. Still got to try handjee, ChemTrailMix and FVM. On to 2019!!!

 

was first in line for 10am FVM because everyone wanted HJ & CTM. the worst line* I stood in was the 2pm HJ. got in line* about 12:30 and got my pours at like 2:30

*line for this purpose means a bunch of people just converging whether they'd been waiting out of line for just as long as I waited in line or showed up at 5 til 2.

besides the HJ line though, 1 hour was the norm.

 

Had a great time! Only variant draft I got was the 10am Varnov and really enjoyed it... Missed out on the Chemtrailmix by 2 spots but oh well.

Ended up getting Handjee and Quartered, then traded 6 regulars for Brozerker and was able to trade that for Macromachine!

Tacos were delicious, weather was perfect and after getting back to Chicago we hit up Wicker Park for some arcade action at the Emporium then plenty of pizza and beers at some other place on Division. Awesome weekend! Back home in St Louis now chilling on the couch in the air conditioning.

I think I’m finally back to normal. I had a blast at DLD 2018. It started off shaky with an Uber ride from hell and then getting Turtledogged. But, as I was in line for Chemtrail at 10, someone traded me a Brotilla for it. Then in the 4 pm Handjee line, some guy traded me Hung Drawn & Quartered for my Brotilla. Hung was one of the top 3 I wanted originally, so I was really happy.

As for taps, I had quite a few. This is what I recall:
Chemtrail (tied for best of the day)
Handjee (the 4 pm tapping was a gold mine - we drank a ton of it as the keg just kept going and going)
Hung Drawn & Quartered (really sweet - think I’ll give my bottle some time before drinking)
Spaceforce! (tons of coffee - I’d be intirigued to trade for a bottle of this)
Cavaleiro (good, but quite sweet)
Monster Tones (tied for best; I was in line for an hour for this as it was my top beer I wanted and the keg kicked 5 people in front of me but luckily some guys I chatted up for quite awhile felt sympathy and shared with me - if you guys are on here, huge props to you!)
Double Barrel VSOJ Cherry Rye (really good and I’d like to have this ona fresh palate)

I probably missed something in my drunken haze. A ton of great beers shared as well. I’d agree that the increase in variants on tap was awesome, but not announcing tap times might be better to help limit the lines a bit.

Had a great time hanging out with some of you from here, as well as meeting some new folks as well. Can’t wait for next year!

 

That makes sense now why it was already sold out when I tried to get some early afternoon. They did a Dark Lord ice cream and bread pudding desert last year, that used way less ice cream so it lasted a lot longer. It was the perfect amount to split or not too bad to fat kid it up and eat by yourself. I think they should go back to that next year.

Glad my favorite part of DLD - by far - is alive and well, the bottle sharing. Nowhere else is it so easy to offer a complete stranger a pour of some potentially incredible beer.

Always amazed by the variety of people I meet, too. And from the places they travel: Buffalo, Dayton, Sacramento, Columbus, Minneapolis...

Only did one tap line release (Space) and it was indeed a farce. But I wouldn't lay all the blame on the line cutters themselves, people in line need to wise up a bit and call that behavior out or just be a bit more reluctant to it.

Overall, it was a blast to have share many amazing beers, a cigar (gasp!) and chat with good company in reasonably acceptable weather. Probably my favorite since 2011. Or was it 2012? The year that had the most perfect sunshine.

 

Hell yeah, great time and thanks for bringing that BBT over!!! Same boat, never dreamed I'd be drinking that one, especially so soon!

I agree on the Cavaleiro of Varnov, I was pleasantly surprised. What's even more awesome was waiting at Alpha for Varnav, they wouldn't tap it until ChemTrailMix was kicked, so we had to run up and down the line and tell people that wanted a pour of Chem to come and get it. So Chem was our first draft pour of the day instead of Varnov, darn lmao

Anyway, we did NOT see enough of the rest of you fuckers! I think the lines kind of screwed the group meetup organization up a bit, but I also think the silly Dragon Abortion shenanigans last year really united the group and helped bring folks together!

 

Don't know how may of you guys got to try Spaceforce but it was delicious. Had many pours of Handjee, FVM, Chemtrailmix and I think folks who got Spaceforce are on the sleeper.

And anyone over by the variant lines in the concert area must have seen this trainwreck! Wow!

Someone asked, thought this year's FVM was way better than last and I liked last year's. This year's was loads of mocha.

Thought the rye was quite a bit sweeter than expected, wasn't as oaky or spicy as I hoped.

 

I hope everything goes OK for her. I watched the videos on FB and she clearly has a different way of partying than me, but she seems to enjoy it. The world of FB commentary definitely wasn’t kind to her.

I will say that I shop at Lakeview Binny’s and have always enjoyed chatting with her briefly during the time she’s been there - hopefully none of this stuff impacts her status there.

 

Yeah, wouldn't want someone posting my partying ways on social media. I did catch some of her act and it was a bit obnoxious, charging through the beer lines like a bull. Unfortunately someone captured her mid trou publicly urinating and posted the pic on facebook which was equally obnoxious.

 

TBH though there were dozens if not hundreds of dudes doing that in 2015 and 2016...it's just easier to hide. But some weren't even hiding it, saw a guy stumbling around with his dick out pissing.

I actually found pictures that we were chilling with her in the DA group last year, she was totally mellow last year. There were great pics of them this year, some were actually pretty cool, someone had a solid camera. Definitely wishing them well. They were in a pit for the biggest shitshow the beer scene can offer, and they were actually acting like it, not a lot can surprise me, but they definitely stole the show this year, especially after the fact.

 

I hear she shot Nick Floyd at Dark Lord Day because she got Turtledogg....

 

Don't do shit in public you don't want taped these days...
