The Pappy one? 2015 Wasn't that much, until it was re-released years later.

Rare 15 was $60 at Goose Island on Rare Day. And at least around Chicago retailed for $60+ that first Black Friday.

Still sold out, so price wasn't really a restrictive issue now was it?

Just commenting at the complete lack of criticism. If the drive to tick is hard enough, I guess the $60 price tag for an unknown brand new beer is warranted.

Although the process was different, Rare 2015 had a previous occurrence that had a ton of hype, and it also was boxed in wood lol. I'm not condoning the price point, but I also didn't pay that much for it (stumbling across multiple bundled packages in Arizona prior to the re-release). I didn't even know $60 was the original price point of Rare '15, but that's absurd to me, since some of the very limited vintages weren't that much.

I guess I'll be the only one to say it, OWK at $60 is absurd to me too (even though, god dammit if I was there I'd pay it)...shit like this is turning a lot of previously proud beer nerds off, though. I have a couple of friends that are more than disgusted at the developments this year.

And $60 is the on-site price, it’s a bar they have to make money

Derivations have been $50+ on site for years, this is nothing new.

lol don't question the Cory King.

No one ever asks why tf they bottled a beer they were going to offer on site? Forcing you to commit to 22 ounces instead of...5? C'mon man there are too many excuses in this thread without any reasonable commentary.

So far we're talking Rare and KBBS. OWK is at that level? But not any of the other SP bottles? Derivation? BBT? Sheeeit.

I'm not talking completely crazy am I?

That Bath and Body Works wax and Michael's stationary gotta add a lot of cost to those overly fancy bottles too.

from what I've seen, TG gouges pretty hard with their "cellar sales" and from what I've heard J Wakefield does the same thing. and I'm willing to guess SP is better than both those breweries. (not much of a guess really)

but that aside, the prices are certainly ridiculous but they're only going to get more ridiculous so what you gonna do?

DB Derivation was definitely $60 on-site and this was August 2017 (Saturday of Maman release)

J Wakefield went way overboard this year, one of the reasons I've got friends disavowing a number of breweries this year. TG has a long proven track record with certain beers and didn't even reach 10% of some of the prices JWB was charging. But again those were cellar sales, not brand new, unknown bottles.

if TG released a brand new BA stout (would never happen btw - lazy much?) and charged $60 on-site people would pay it.

my point being just because O is a brand new stout it's coming from a brewer with a proven track record.

Right, I don't disagree. Also, I would pay it (as I would at SP too)...doesn't make it right. But I'm literally the only one that feels this way apparently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not trading for SP stouts anymore though. I've been burned (literally, way too hot) too many times by them and I think their wild game is head and shoulders above their stout game.

my best advice: trade for coffee shop vibes every time you can. best deal on the trade market today. better than any nonBA stout and rivals most nonBA stouts. Can be got for next to nothing.

I'm an STL guy and huge fan of SP beers, and I along with many other locals are turned off by the constant uptick of prices over the years. I've enjoyed talking to Cory about beer and have considered myself lucky to have easy access to the beers he produces but there is a line that has been crossed in my opinion. The lack of opportunity to join the club was really disappointing and it's become kind of a joke to guess what the next beer will cost. Fruited is at least $35 now and stouts are $60...it's silly.

lol I gotchu. No I don't even remember how much. Me and 8 other friends went, 4th year in a row for me--not to mention hanging with some of the crazy BA dudes. Was a good time, as always--no rain? Even better.

That said, the variant shitlording is what brought me down this path, couple of the friends I mentioned above started their swearing off of breweries just after seeing all the dumb shit going on. They hadn't seen it in years past so weren't expecting it.
