Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout. One of the first beers I had that made me love craft beer. Not much coffee in the taste; More in the dark fruit/ plume tasting realm. Also being 7% or so abv, it's a lot less "heavy" than most imperial stout, which push into the double digits.

I don't know if ninkasi distributes in Michigan, but you should try OATIS if you can, it's their oatmeal stout and it's awesome, still one of my favorite go to stouts....if you can't get it and would like to try it just let me know. Oh and I'm sorry to hear that you don't like coffee, after beer it's my most favorite beverage in the world.

The flavor. I LOVE the smell, but if I had drink a cup of coffee, I'd need to add copious amounts of sugar and cream until it doesn't taste like coffee anymore. I don't know if I can get more specific than that.

Even worse, I'm looking at a possible promotion that will require me to move to Seattle. How does someone live in Seattle and not like coffee??!!?

any stout aged in a oak or bourbon barrel normally tastes more like whiskey and wood,( awesome combo) rather than coffee. Try barrel aged Yetti, and you wont be disappointed.

Since I drink my coffee black with only one packet of sugar, in my opinion, it is easier for me to like stouts. Though they might not be my favorite style of beer, I think the less stuff you put in your coffee the better you might like a stout. Also, it might have to do with the stouts you are trying. As some stouts have more flavors put in them.

Try Young's Double Chocolate stout -- you won't get much coffee-type flavor

i dk, I drank stouts before I ever drank coffee and to me now coffee tastes nothing like a stout, unless it is a coffee stout. Coffee tends to have this fruity nuttiness to it that I never taste in stouts.

i don't drink much coffee but when I do it is always "black" i guess they call it with no additives, and usually german brands, I always think stouts are stronger in flavor regardless, but the flavor profiles are incredibly different imo. I think it would be easier to down coffee.

Just drink them. In time you'll think of that coffee flavor as stout flavor...or maybe you won't, in which case delve into another category and don't fight your hates.

I've seen a couple mentions of it here, but New Holland Dragon's Milk is a nice powerful stout with lots of bourbon and little to no coffee. Mmmm. I think you will enjoy that Dark Horse One, too. Grab a Dark Horse Too if you like it, and a Bell's Double Cream! Many awesome stouts out there without coffee in them.

Blasphemy! Coffee is one of the critical four food groups: beer, cigars, peated scotch and coffee.

Why do you have to like stouts? Just drink what you like, call it a day.
