Add the following to those two and the two Sixpoint beers that I mentioned earlier and you have my 5:

Just recently I had a Memorial Day get together, and was seriously considering that Alpenflo. As it turns out, I played it cheap and got Radeberger Pilsner instead (for the same amount of money it was 12-16oz. cans instead of 12oz.). The Radeberger is a perfectly nice beer, but I guess I didn't take into account that when served from a cooler on ice it wasn't at its best, and came across as really bitter for the gravity. My experience with the Alpenflo, however, is that it tastes better to me when served cold. Thankfully I learned that lesson early, and still have the rest of the Summer ahead of me.

I was very much in agreement with a lot of your post... until you got to the price specifics and substitution above. I guess Hill Farmstead sees a massive price increase when it comes to NY.

For IPAs I find that Two Hearted works perfectly fine for me, never seems to get to the point of overbearing or heavy.

Beat me to it. The essence of an oxymoron. "Sessionable" beers, summer styles or not, aren't meant to be sipped. :grimacing::wink:

Well it's only 2 that I'm mentioning now, but I'll say SN Summerfest, and Sam Adams 76; both taste pretty good on a hot summer day after doing the obligatory yard work.

Well, getting completely blitzed at 2PM on a hot, Saturday afternoon isn't always the case. If that's your goal, you'd probably wanna switch it up with some small batch tequila :no_mouth:

Although I didn't hate this beer, I thought it was basically "meh".

I'd bet that @zid 's comment was more of a tease regarding how it was phrased, rather than about the concept. Usually if something is described as a 'sipper' it's because of how strong it is.

For MN brewed, Utepils Copacetic & Pils, Schell's Pils, Summit Keller Pils & Dakota Soul, Surly Rising North. Even Summit Lazy Sipper might make the list for some... its touch of strawberry gives it a bit of a leg up (IMO) for a blonde ale and a refreshing taste.

Which was an editorial comment I made about Summit's Lazy Sipper...

Not sure if it's just a one off, but ballast points mango even keel session ipa is a pretty nice yard work beer. Have had a couple mowing and weed whacking, it gets my seal of approval.

I’ve tried every Sixpoint beer distributed to our area but have yet to come across Alpenflo. I called 5 distributors and Whole Foods this past weekend with no luck.

Any idea where to find this in western pa, pgh? I do enjoy a good helles lager! Victory and Weihenstaphaner are two that I have enjoyed over the years. If Alpenflo is as good as the ratings here, I could see myself buying a few 12 packs over the summer.

    Thanks, man.

Sort of a pipedream with HF. If I could constantly get Clara, I gotta cut something, and I love the flavor profiles of the rest of the styles too much to bump them. That is where I am coming from.

It's pretty damn good. Bought the last 12 at a local store this past weekend and I've heard that if there is more around, it isn't much. I believe that Shane said there'd be more coming in short order in the Beer News & Releases Forum.

TongoRad is correct. I was just being playful. For me, a sipper is strictly something you drink in small amounts at a time, and the opposite of a session beer. Oddly enough, when I go to the store this week, my shopping list is Pilsners and barley wines. That's gonna be my summer drinking. Summer sippers AND drinkers. I really dislike neat tequila.

Man, I was really put off by the amount of mango in that beer. All BP's fruited/flavored beers are just way, way too heavy-handed for my palate (except V@S, but even that's very vanilla and coffee forward, though I guess it works better in a Baltic porter for me). Regular Even Keel is a good beer to me, though I never see it anymore.
