lot's of buzz on facebook groups, as well as comments on cypress's instagram and facebook posts about the last batch of Insane in the Grain being off and very different from the prior batch in cans (including many pictures clearly showing how different the beer looks), but I haven't seen a single response or acknowledgement by Cypress.... interesting... I haven't had either version, but seems like a bad approach to handling it by the brewery.... anyone have it?

I've not had it because don't like the style, but am curious... what facebook groups are you talking about? If there are NJ beer ones I'd like to know

Their response so far has been the typical bull**** NJ brewery response of 'we don't know what happened it was perfect out of the tank'.

Stop rewarding mediocrity with your money folks.

Where has there been a response? I've seen the complaints on IG and FB, but no response.
Saw some pictures comparing prior batch to this one. If the beers are that substantially different it is a serious problem because as much as it hurts sometimes there is a bad batch and has to be dumped. I remember that barrier did that with a big batch of Money IPA a few years ago. 30 barrels if I remember correctly. That's a big loss for a small brewery.

But then again remember this happened with Kane with its first head high canning run. People were complaining. I was one of them. Kane had the same response as you say that Cypress has now. They explained their QC process and even after the fact they were pulling random four packs and checking them and claiming there was no problem. Even so Kane offered anybody that wanted to come in and exchange the opportunity to do so. Of course Kane was Brewery only release which makes it a lot easier. If people were able to get to the brewery for the beer they could get their foreign exchange. Here it is in distribution which makes returning it more difficult.

In any event I would hold tight and see what their ultimate response is.

Just look on Facebook, their co-owner Jason Kijowski was peddling that good ol' NJ brewer 'it's not our fault it came out bad' line of crap.

New Jersey Let's Talk Craft Beer is probably the biggest one.

I'm glad I only bought one 4 pack of this batch of Insane. It still tastes like a Citra IPA, but other than that tastes way different than batch one. The 2 beers look completely different.

is it bad? like oxidized? off flavors?

fwiw when Root + Branch (a very new brewer that doesn't have a physical location yet) had issues with a canning run, they either refunded (i think) but definitely provided exchanges.

If an upstart can do that, an "established" brewery can do it.

My guess is they are using new equipment, and at the same time sizing up batches, and had an issue they have to work through.

But I'm not going to write them off for that. It happens. And as I mentioned before, it happened to Kane.

Write them off for being a bad brewery that had one good beer and a whole host of crap waste away on shelves.

    That VIP............ *pukes*

I don't know. I've actually liked more than I've disliked from Cypress over the past 6 months. The recent Alva imperial porter was straight up great, third child stout (tap only) was very good, jersey winter and jersey noreaster also good, I like 17 mile IPA though it won't impress the haze-bros, the mango habanero 17 mile version was fantastic, and the recent weize so blue was good.

I did not care for the regular hefeweizen they just released, but then again I don't like Kane Cloud Cover or Carton Wit Whale much better.
I haven't had VIP in a while but I remember liking it more than other vanilla porters, and certainly it was not vomit-inducing.

Tastes differ I guess. For me, I can do without demented and bolero snort. But I'm sticking by cypress.

“Completely different” is a stretch here. Looks the same color to me. The first pic looks “hazier.” Of course the lighting in these two picks could be different. How does it taste different? I’ve never had the beer before. In fact, I’ve never had any Cypress beers.

The previous batch tastes how it looks. It's a hazy citra IPA with creamy mouthfeel. The typical stuff that people go crazy for nowadays.

The recent batch is all citra up front, but has a different mouthfeel. It's cleaner and lighter. Also, it's got a bit of a funky, yeasty taste that you'd expect from a saison. The owner of the brewery has made comments that they used a different generation of yeast than the previous batch, so something might have happened here.

I honestly don't think the new batch is bad, but if you blind tasted both batches I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that says they're the same beer.

I can also report that I was fully disappointed. Last time I tried this beer I lucked up. It was so good I went back and bought more. Naturally when I heard they were finally releasing it again I snatched up a 4pk (glad I didn't buy more). To me it was a totally different beer... the taste/look/smell, everything was different. I never pour beer down the drain. I drunk about half of it and just had to throw in the towel... the rest went down the drain. It's almost like they put the wrong beer in the wrong cans or something. Huge let down. I will never make that gamble again... although at the time of purchase it didn't seem like a gamble... more like a bait and switch.

tl;dnr: If you still have cans of Insane lying around, you can trade them in at the brewery for Imperial Runway Models.

classy move, but interestingly no admission/indication that there was anything wrong with it, or if so, what went wrong.... guess it doesn't matter at this point though.

Classic NJ brewer move. Never admit fault but throw a bone to try and make people forget.

idk if it's the lighting or what, but that looks like it was pulled off the yeast cake.

I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone in the MidAtlantic forum, whose home base is NJ, that hates breweries from NJ as much as you do.
