Other than using dates as a means to build anticipation, I have come to agree with this. If distributors have control of the beer long before the release date, then they are a much bigger factor in deciding when people get it than the brewery is. For example, people all over the country picked up Backwoods Bastard today on it's release day, yet I failed to track it down, and I don't even live that far from Founders. I'd prefer if release dates were scrapped because I'm always disappointed when I can't find beer on the release day.

It does help build anticipation. And if there is one thing Founders releases could use more of...is anticipation.

Im gonna start a brewery that releases a beer the day it's supposed to be sold. Oh wait, that doesn't build frantic hype like the system that breweries like founder's uses does.

what ever price the brewery set's is the retail price.

And they were pouring it at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV, so there should be a fair number of opinions out there.

This failure should go on the distributor, not necessarily the store. Why did they deliver this already?

probably didn't mean a 4 pack. I know i can only buy singles when it comes out and they are around $8.

The brewery doesn't set anything, they suggest a price. When King Henry was released at the Goose Island brewpub I think they charged $25 a bottle.

still no comments on the beer??

I was able to share a bottle 2 weeks ago w/ someone who received a bottle as a gift from MI. a very solid BW but (imo) still very much hott. I enjoyed it but wasn't gong ho over it and I prefer the Nemesis BW as I found it to be more drinkable. I prefer beer I can drink - not hold on too. at the retail price they are asking, I won't buy more for personal consumption - although I will for trades.

This happens with every Backstage release.
On a side note, Founders supposedly sets store allocations based on how much Founders beer they sell in a year. However when I was in Cleveland last weekend I stopped in a small store that happened to have Frangelic still, almost 4 months after it was released. They had no other Founders beer in the store. Meanwhile my store in MI sells all of their brews and we got one case of FMB that sold out in 1 day.
