New Glarus Brewing (2018)

Odd... good? Or odd... odd?

 

It's not a bad beer, but it's not one I'd go to if I wanted a Belgian pale ale because it's not the typical flavor profile I seek when I crave the style.

 

My observations/tips from my yesterday's visit to NG. 1) I-88 from Sugar Grove to I-39 is under massive construction (not sure any good alt from western burbs), 2) NG snifters in gift shop, but was happy with the pint pilsner-style glass rvcd with $8 sampler), 3) like they had 25th, Abtsolution, & Rhubarb-Strawberry on tap, 4) it's been 3-4 years f/ last trip to NG, grounds & buildings are super well maintained...great place to visit, 5) ate lunch in town at Glarner Stube, they had Belgian Red on tap...and great food. Cheers

Anyone know of any SR near Duluth area? maybe in superior? Will be up there this weekend and wanted to pick up a 4 pack or two.

 

Not entirely sure on the exact inventory, but your best bet will be at Keyport (near the Bong bridge) or the new Super One on US 2/53.

 

I'm assuming you know if you're looking on the Minnesota side you're wasting your time? It's not an accident they've plastered the slogan "Only in Wisconsin" on their products.

 

Correct. I know New Glarus is only in Wisconsin but Duluth is right on the border, so figure it would be ok to reference it. I guess I could of send Superior, Wi

 

I called today to see if they still have strawberry rhubarb in the beer store and they made it sound like they hadn't had any since the initial release. They said the next release in the beer store is the second week of July (as has been mentioned by others regarding SR hitting distribution). Was there just a small amount of strawberry rhubarb in the beer store for the 25th anniversary release weekend? I was hoping to snag some on my way to Madison tomorrow but it sounds like I'm out of luck.

They also mentioned that they want the 25th anniversary beer to be available for the rest of the year. They must have made a lot.

 

I can confirm three pallets of 25 and no SR at depot as of today. Looks like they restocked the champ rouge, sour porter, & pommie. Gotlandic kinda low maybe 1/4 pallet

 

There was still strawberry rhubarb on Saturday with the R&D release going on anybody that was aware of what it was grabbing there 4pk. It’s so good!

The SR did sell out mid-afternoon on Saturday of the release.

Is there any Mistral left and is there a limit?

 

The 25th was damn tasty. I grabbed 2 and would have grabbed more if less expensive.

 

Good to hear. Some of their old barrel aged Belgian-style Unplugged beers were really well done too.

I will chime in RE the Mistral in case no one has more current intel. There was plenty when I was there a week ago today.

If NG made nothing but lagers, all would still be good in the beer world.
