I'll say this much... TG fans certainly are an easily agitated lot...

Should we send all the sleep-deprived drunk people your way after the release?

Yep, but those days are long gone.

Nope, but this is the new standard for TG. They gotta make sure it sells out right away, otherwise it will become.... OMG just another available stout.

On a more serious note, TG high profit items are down due to conversions to 4 packs, so they need to make sure there stout's stay valuable, and hype produces value....

TG's games/tactics have really worn thin, buuuuuuuutt.....

Until people quit jumping through hoops, camping out for days, and paying exorbitant black market prices for these beers, TG would be stupid to not cash in and keep the hype train rolling.

TG has been rewarded for being this way. As long as that continues, what motivation do they have to change? If you don't like it, don't participate. It's pretty simple.

THIS. They wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

    1) IF everyone on BA stopped, it wouldn't matter. We both know that. There's far to many black marketeers for that to matter. And too many people who buy on that market for it to matter.

    2) I always hate this argument, because it's the same argument against eating conventionally raised meat. Not enough people will stop to make any mathematical difference. It's just a waste of breath to even say it. And the response "well if you don't try, it certainly won't happen" is just as silly of a retort for me. Same goes for voting. The probability that you'll be the marginal voter and decide the outcome is so astronomically small that it doesn't even come close to mattering.

Not trying to be rude. I know my tact is low, and my response curt. I just never understand these responses when you know it won't happen.

My point isn't trying to make it happen, so much as to remind people that bitching about what the brewery is doing is pointless. The brewery didn't create this. The neck beards did. I'm not exactly a raving TG fanboi, but they're just advantageously manipulating a situation that others created.

I agree. What I am saying is that what you're suggesting doesn't make sense though, even if serves as a reminder.

It's not a dominant strategy to "sit this one out to show them that I don't like it." Not enough people will sit out, so the only one getting hurt is you. It's not even going to show a positive return unless you receive such enjoyment from "showing them" with your 1 less body outweighs your [chance] to get that beer. And, that just seems extremely unrealistic for one of the most whalezy of stouts.

And that's where I disagree. My life is certainly better without investing days in a single bottle of whalez stout that costs several hundred dollars. I've just completely walked away from that game, and I'm better off for it.

If more beer enthusiasts felt the same way, the hype, price, and general tomfuckery surrounding these beers would decrease. You're right in that I'm basically pissing in the wind at this point, but it's only my jeans getting soaked.

I'm not showing any brewery anything. I buy plenty of TG beer. I've just moved away from BA stout releases, and in turn quit getting mad at the brewery for handling them the way they do.

I'm struggling to identify the victim here. For those who want to pay absurd secondary prices for TG stouts et al cool. Let them enjoy the beer and let the breweries enjoy the profits. For those who don't want to pay those prices then fine, there are plenty of other great beers available at much lower cost which are close to if not nearly as good. As long as we throw away the "gotta tick off every single hyped beer to impress my friends" mentality (for which we'd all be better off) then everyone can enjoy whatever beer they choose to drink and we can move on with life and worry about more important shit.

I long ago stopped caring about chasing every last beer someone else said I had to try. Sure, I'll gladly share a pour of something that something thinks is cool and I'll buy or trade for something special here and there, but as long as I'm enjoying the beer I'm drinking I refuse to worry about the beer I'm not drinking.

So with all that has been said in the last 24+ hours about this, there's one true question yet to be answered...

Is SR-71 dropping Friday or what?!

In my mind it's very similar to people sucking up & scalping hard-to-get concert tickets. Years ago my kids wanted to go see Hannah Montana, but the tickets were gone in an instant due to the "secondary market" & there was no way I was going to pay whatever it was ($150+) for tickets from scalpers. Sure, they could have gone to see Hilary Duff or whatever (almost the same thing, right?), but they wanted to see Hannah herself. Legal? Sure. Capitalism? Of course. Sucky? Yup.

IMHO it blows that people who want to make a buck shut out anyone but those with an insane amount of disposable income. I guess I see the same thing here. One could go grab Central Waters BA Stout or something similar is off the shelf, which is a damn good beer. But sometimes one wants what might be the best beer one might ever taste (which was KBBS for me) & the cost/effort/insanity is just prohibitive.

Is it just beer? Sure. But I think it's pretty easy to understand why people get annoyed by those who go to a release just to post a "crotch shot" of the beer in their car 5 minutes later, trying to sell the beer for 3x or 8x what they just paid for it. It's greedy & for me personally, takes something out of what was once a fun, social hobby.

Conspiracy Theorists would say releasing it on July 1st aka 7-1 for SR-71. Around his 5 week projected mark hahaha

Well, it doesn't look like it's happening today, so maybe it will be 7/1. Would they really do a release on a Sunday though...?

On a related note, wasn't there a 2018 Vanilla Bean and Dulce Muerte Assassin teased on Twitter a few months ago? Both of these variants are on Untappd.

I can see it going down on 7/1. @IPA-AllDay pulling at my conspiracy theorist heart string and since the 4th falls in the middle of the week it posing an interesting position. Even at work we had this whole discussion, do you take Monday/Tuesday off or Thursday/Friday off?
