Being such a bigot that another person's different viewpoint would cause me to not drink their beer?

What a sad life that would be.

The Gay witches for abortion brewery or The Catholic Anti Premarital Sex League Brewery, I don't give a shit, if you make good beer I will drink it. Don't care about your viewpoint.

Interesting. Would you say that you don't have many strongly held beliefs? There's got to be something that would make you say, "I love their beer, but fuck them. I'll never buy a thing from them again."

Sure there are exceptions to everything generally.

My beliefs have evolved throughout my lifetime I guess.

I also have a strong cynical side and dabble in nihilism.

I have always valued the "safe space" BA has offered, free from politics and religion. I'll admit I was a little leery of this thread when I clicked on it. However I am pleasantly surprised by most people's civil, non-partisan responses.

Honestly this site has the most intelligent people on the internet, free from reactionary trolls (except for if a brewery decides to add a NEIPA  )

I’m still hollering “fuck Great South Bay Brewery” so long as they keep one of their beers named for a certain Segregationist..........

The "douche-factor" here is certainly less than it used to be, but there's always room for improvement. Even with my own responses.

The people I roll with when I'm drinking beer tend to be a fucking rainbow of demographics, but that's because my friends are a fucking rainbow.

This starts much deeper than beer. Go look at the close friends of most self righteous white liberals and you'll see a sea of white, white, more white and one or two friends that don't fit into that box. This isn't even necessarily intentional on their part. There is some degree of social segregation that occurs naturally, some that's culturally influenced and some that's reinforced by going to places like beer bars where you make more friends that look exactly like you.

Systematically, there's barely anything we can do about this. On a personal level, don't be part of the problem. Don't assume because you don't see many black people at beer bars that you shouldn't invite your black friend to come along when you would otherwise (seen this happen before).

This is mostly anecdotal (though there is data out there to support the way people make friends and interact with them) but I'll finish up with one more anecdote. I had a friend who I invited to come along to a beer bar and his assumption going in that he didn't tell me is that it'd be a bunch of white people (he wasn't wrong) but he told me what did surprise him was how friendly and cool people were to him and he didn't feel out of place aside from the obvious visual part.

I'm game! However I don't know if the people who disagree with my politics can actually even handle my presence with a MAGA shirt or hat on. The leftist media has been very successful with their indoctrination over the average American citizen throughout the past few decades. Like Pavlov's dog, the average American immediately spews hate when dealing with Republicans.

I think people who can only think along party lines are adorable. As if politicians of any affiliation ever solved any problem other than finding ways to fill their pockets more.

I slightly disagree as I believe their primary driving force is keeping their job.

I don't really understand what the article was trying to say. That we need to discuss politics more?

I don't know if anyone here listens to Dan Carlin. But his latest episode of Common Sense talks about how in the current Political Climate, and the recent several years really, that people can no longer "talk Politics" or "debate the issues." People just get into a shouting match and start name calling. No thought involved. No discussion of ideas. Nothing.

It's the fault of our entire Political System, and 24 hour news cycle, not a certain party. And both sides are equally to blame.

Unfortunately I don't see a way it gets better any time soon.

The article wasn't about politics at all, rather it was an essay about how the craft beer industry needs to look at itself with a more discerning eye and take constructive criticism.

This is not unique to politics. It is American culture, in general, that is like this. We, very literally, have a society full of people who are massively undereducated about issues about which they have strongly held opinions. It is infuriating.

Slight tweak: It's to keep their job that has the insane bonus of ripping off the common man! Glad to hear I'm not the only complete cynic politically on this site.

Yeah I'm no theologian but I've always wondered if the dualistic nature of Christianity (heaven or hell) translates into our (essentially) two party system

Can you imagine if we actually put the effort into teaching civics and history? Half of people in this country couldn't even pass the citizenship test if they tried... it's honestly so depressing
