Silly question - is DB Derivation considered one of the blends, or is it distinctly different? I.e. would the various iterations of Derivation include:

D1-D8 + AB Derivation + DB Derivation (Have I missed any?)

From what I understand, each Derivation release is slightly different and uses stouts of different ages and barrels to blend into a new version. DBD was aged in 12 year old Willet barrels, then racked to port barrels and then bottled.

    Right - Totally get that.

What I meant is, is DB Derivation one of the D1-8, or if you were going to list out all the derivations, would D1-8 be seperate from AB Derivation and DB Derivation. I wasn't sure if there were 2 names for the same beer, is I guess what I am saying.

All Derivations are blends of different aged stouts. Some are oatmeal stouts, some are milk stouts, some are rye. They are all different. DBD was specifically aged in two types of barrels, one after the other and then bottled. Each Derivation blend could have some of the same base or not. They are a series of beers, not the same beer. You'd have to ask Cory for anything more specific

    Thanks.

I think I misstated my question, but I think you answered it anyway.

I was just trying to ask if "DB Derivation" is one of the D1 to D8. I get that they are all different blends, but is DB Derivation actually "D4", but everyone just calls it DB derivation? Something like that. That's what I was trying to get at.

Sounds like the answer is, DB Derivation only goes by DB derivation, and it is not want of the other derivations that is always referred to as "D1" to "D8."

Sorry for the thread hijack and all the confusion. Just a tad confusing when there are "D1 to D8," but then there are also these other derivations that go by seperate names, and apparently are completely separate from the other derivations listed as D1-D8.

no prob. D1 is D1 and so on... DBD is a specific release, and AB Derivation is yet another. Derivation is a series more than a specific recipe.

@Beer_Economicus AB Derivation and DB Derivation are not part of 1-8. so there’s D1-D8 + those 2 Derivations.
