Yeah, definitions seem to be less than defined these days.

The original term was "malt adjunct" and referred to ingredients which required the enzymes from malt to unlock fermentable sugar from them.
Sugar and free sugar containing ingredients were called supplements.
The secondary value of adjuncts was to mop up excess nitrogen which caused lack of clarity.
The use of rice or corn allowed US brewers to use domestic barley malt previously considered unsuitable, hence the term "adjunct lager".

Here's maybe the most controversial thing in this thread. Ready? Most people that meet me in person think I'm a pretty decent guy.

Passion fruit. Every IPA is reminiscent of passion fruit. I live in New Hampshire. I've never eaten a passion fruit. I'm not sure that I even know anyone who's eaten a passion fruit. I've been looking for one at the grocery store, just so I can try one, so I know what my beer's supposed to taste like, but I can't find one. Knock it the fuck off with the passion fruit.

Hah! I hear you on that one, but unfortunately for you it's also one of the most dead-on descriptors there are. Even more so than grapefruit or pine, imo.

You may need to go one degree of separation over to try it then. If you can get the Chobani passion fruit yogurt, it actually gives you a good idea what the fruit is like.

Four packs of tall boys for $16+? No thanks. Don't care what's in them...

If it isn't passion fruit, it's pineapple or guava or mango or papaya or...some combination of all of the above.

    Well, it's a 33% bonus over a 4-pack of 12oz cans/bottles that often go for $14 to $16. I'll take a 4-pack of tallboy Evil Twin EMJ for $16 any day.

Have you never had any of those fruits? If not, I’d recommend you seek them out and try them - they really do capture a lot of flavors you find in fruity IPAs.

BOOMSAUCE! It tastes like spoiled milk! You know, like passion fruit!

I think you phrased that backwards; the beers capture the flavors of the fruit. I tend to not care for mango, passionfruit, etc, so that's part of the reason I don't care for those beers.

I was at my favorite local spot tonight and there was some dude sitting at the bar complaining because they just tapped a new stout. “It is summer, why even bother with a stout”

I let out an audible scoff much to the bartenders glee. Just because it’s warm out doesn’t mean the only thing you can drink are sessions and Kolsches. Oh and the cherry on top? The dude was drinking an 8% NE Dipa. Heavier than the oatmeal stout

Really, all those fruits are easy to get with distinctive tastes that occur in hops and are easy to identify.

Tastes of anything but hops. And I like hops to taste of hops and not like something else.

Pardon me sir, but anything hops taste like is what hops taste like. Unless logic doesn't exist in your part of the world, this is true for me, and for you, and is not open for debate.

Similarly any tomato you eat, that is what a tomato tastes like, any statue you see, that is what a statue looks like, any music you hear, that is what music sounds like, etc.

I had a couple Double Dark Chocolate Biggie Smores last night.

    Double scoff at that guy.
