Damn... Though the space nerd in me says it should have been three years, bc a SR 71 can only break Mach 3.

I don't know, I didn't ask a bunch of questions. She said it was batch 1, not batch 2, that has been aged 5 years and this was the last of that batch and that was why the low bottle count. I gather from that she was talking about the bottles.

I imagine they left it in the barrel and put it new bottles.

You have successfully mindfucked the entire BeerAdvocate group of consumers that have any passing interest in this recent batch of SR71.

And I do not applaud you.

I'm hesitant to believe 5year aged stout in barrels tastes amazing. -And I am normally the advocate for not only longer aging, but loving that Bourbon punch.

    5 years just sounds...rough.

If it really was 5 years, it was anything but rough. And it was the best beer I've had in my life until somebody gave me a pour of KBBS an hour later. And even those two were neck and neck. It was incredibly barrel forward in the best way possible.

I hear you. I'm just skeptical it sat in a barrel for 5 years.

Just an FYI to those trading for and trading their SR-71s... a few people have come forward with claims of caps leaking. This means TG likely used wax that was too hot and in turn compromised the actual cap. There is no telling yet, how widespread the issue is, so take it for what it is...

I did think to myself that video they posted on twitter of the SR71 announcement had what appeared to me to be way more fluid wax than I normally see on just waxed bottles, taking reverse playback and time lapse into consideration.

And these guys got pretty lucky with the wax being compromised. otherwise the caps can be leaking underneath any sealed wax and you would not even know it until you break the wax and open it. By then it could be completely oxidized even within a day or 2. This sucks for everyone involved, but I don't like seeing breweries be all shady and shit about it and deleting tweets. Not a good look.
