Just brewed with ctz hops and when I opened the pack the hops were a dark color. I rubbed the hops together and smelt fine so went ahead and used them. El Dorado, centinnel and azacca hops were all bright green and smelt great.

I do recall getting Colombus hops from my LHBS and they were a lot dark than usual and the beers turned out good. Hopefully this is the same case here.

Quick update on the huell melon dry hopped (in cold keg) siason - flavors have melded nicely, I'd say. Nothing off about it.

I am also happy to report that even though my Huell Melon was opened and stalled at the border for 5 days, there is no sign of cheesyness or off flavours in the resulting beer.

I think this variety (which I have never used) just smells a bit different than the bags of Citra and galaxy I have been burying my nose into lately.

    Cheers !

Just finished bottling some beer dry-hopped with 2oz mandarina bavaria (in 5 gal), which I received from 47hops. After 8 days of dry-hopping, the aroma coming from all the beer was fantastic! Fairly pungent scents of -- I didn't think I would say this -- mandarin/tangerine/grapefruit.

I cracked open my first bag of hops this past weekend and they smelled fine and smelled even better in the boil. I will see how they taste in a few weeks but for the price I am satisfied.

Planning on using the Hallertau Blanc next, will give them a wiff this weekend.

That said, anyone have any experience with them? I'm thinking about showcasing them in a straight foward belgian tripel grist, hoping the phenols play nicely. 10 g batch, bittering with Bravo @ 60 (to 40 IBU), maybe 3 oz. Hallertau Blanc in the whirlpool and another 4 oz. dry hop.

Just received my order placed on 5/24. Mandarina Bavaria, Centennial, Fuggles, Tettnang, Hallertau Blanc, Azacca. I haven't opened any of the packages yet to inspect.

Willamette and Styrian Celeia were ok. Nothing smelled off, but these are subdued hops, so no punches in the nose.

Mandarina Bavaria smell delicious. I'm currently brewing ten gallons of saison hopped exclusively with them.

Yup, these Columbus hops just don’t look right. The good news is they don’t smell cheesy just subdued. The Columbus hops are the brown hops on top if you didn’t guess.

Can't see them. FYI, if you put pictures in Image tags instead of Media tags, then everyone (all browsers) should be able to see them. (Just use the link that is "direct," i.e. ends in .png or whatever.)

Has anyone used the hallertau blanc yet? I am about to dry hop a beer with it soon. I have not opened the package yet.

They smelled fine both in the bag and after a smash between the fingers - not as potent as the Heul Melon, but maybe that's just the variety. Also green, not like the picture of the Columbus above. I plan on brewing with them this weekend.

On a funny note, I decided to open them the day I had a buddy over who said he has never seen hop pellets before. First thing I said was, don't eat it. He did.

They do look a bit brown, especially compared to the other hops you have them with.

On one hand, since I assume you are bittering with them, at least they aren't really contributing flavor/aroma. On the other hand the alpha acids might be really low at this point, throwing off your calculations.

I bitter with warrior. I love Columbus(CTZ) for building a background of hop flavor and aroma. I think it’s a great supporting hop.

Fair enough. I just picked up an ounce to bitter the Tripel I'm brewing this weekend, Halltauer Blanc is doing the rest of the work, so I suppose that was fresh in my mind. Never assume.

Shortly after ordering I called Amanda and asked if she could change the shipper from USPS to FedEx because of logistical issues on my end. She was able to and did it no questions asked.
My most recent CC statement had a credit :grinning: from @47Hops for the difference in shipping cost, which I neither requested nor expected.

A more probable culprit is isovaleric acid.

You might consider another use for those turds :grimacing:...CTZ, as you know, should be very pungent and dank...they are either a very late harvest/old from the looks of it.
