Many thanks @cjgiant for getting this great thread rolling today! Hope you're able to feel up for a beer in the near future.

Snuck in a breakfast beer today while watching the World Cup...before a day filled by a healthy 'Honey Do List'. Today's offering comes from the stalwart Firestone Walker.

Coconut Rye Parabola is a new variant, and this bottle is from the first batch. Grabbed it while in Paso Robles for the FWIBF, along with lots of fresh Pivo. Looks the part, though the head (following a vigorous pour) is nearly gone before I snapped a photo. Nose is fairly sweet, plenty of coconut and cherries. Coconut is pleasant, and not artificial. Gains dimensions as it warms, but the rye whiskey didn't show on the nose until nearly at room temperature (and still faint). Taste has better balance of the various dimensions, but heavier on the cherries, vanilla, and chocolate. Coconut is less prominent vs. the nose. Spiciness from the rye is noticeable, but not overpowering. Feel is silky, thinner than I recall previous batches of Parabola.

It's a great variant with nice added dimension. Think I still prefer the base beer, but quite happy to have another bottle in the cellar to see if once the coconut fades a bit the rye whiskey takes a bigger role. Overall rating link, BA score = 4.62, rdev = +4.3%

    New Beer Sunday: A Witbier

Afternoon NBSers with a call for current campaigners for cheery cherry Witbiers.

This afternoon’s 2nd new “beat the heat” beer is Pooltime from Bell’s.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until I finish the beer, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/42649/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors are both fruity and spicy with the wheat, some coriander and clove with a nice melange of fruit that features tart cherry. In there with the tart cherry there’s a bit of citrus and hints of green orchard fruits. The hops make a herbal, grassy contribution and just a bit of bitterness. That all said, while this is a tasty beer, as was Ommegang’s Fruition last week, I’m a bit of a traditionalist and this is another new beer that would not bump either the Allagash White or the St. Bernardus Wit from my regular rotation.

    Cheers, all!

Founders Barrel Runner, dry hopped IPA aged in rum barrels, 11% abv, aromas of sweet fruit, pina colada, pineapple, mosaic hops hidden by the sweetness and malt, sticky lacing on glass, some booze for sure, very different beer, enjoyable complex serious beer here!

Happy Sunday, New Beer Swiggers and commentators. We stayed home this weekend so at least I'm not stuck in northbound traffic coming up from the Shore on this very hot afternoon. I feel like I'm down there anyway as I drink this collaboration between Carton and Cape May Brewing, which are the "bookend" breweries along the New Jersey coastline (hence the name). It's an 8% APA brewed with pineapple chutney, oats, lactose, and basil and hopped with Citra, Belma, and Zythos. It's a great cooler on a hot muggy day! Here's my review:

    4.18/5 rDev +0.2%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Canned on 6/14/2018 and poured into Carton IPA glass. It pours a hazy, tangerine yellow color with a half finger of foamy, bright-white head and lacing that dissipated slowly. There's lots of pineapple and tangerine on the nose along with sweet lactose, soft floral hops, and pine and spice notes. It's a fragrant pour. The taste opens with sweet pineapple, tangerine, and lemon. At mid-sip I'm tasting the blend of Citra and Belma hops, which add moderate bitterness but without a strong bite. At the end, particularly as the glass warms, I'm tasting lactose and oats which add a touch of sweetness at the finish and counters the basil. This ale features a pleasant degree of carbonation and it drinks below the 8% ABV. In fact, you have to watch yourself because it's super drinkable particularly on a hot day. Overall, this is a really fun beer from two creative and adventuresome brewers. It's an ideal Down the Shore beer!

Craig, I hope you feel better! Enjoy your new beers today, gang.

    Happy NBS advocates!

Looks like @MacMalt already beat me to it with a well written and detailed review on the beer!

I will add that I find the Lactose and Oats really help to bring a degree of creaminess to the beer that works well in conjunction with the rest of the adjuncts.

For me personally Im getting everything they advertise on the can and it all some how works together to make a topical and herbal DIPA thats so much fun to drink!

Each and every sip is dynamic and can warrant a conversation.

This is a very fun and well brewed beer between two awesome brewers!

    Cheers!

New beer #5. Bought this during the winter, but was saving it for a scorcher of a day. Today is that day. It’s like an amped up version of Festina Peche. Way more flavor.

    Peche - Une Annee
    Wild Ale - 6.5% abv
    Score: 4.35 (+6.4% rDev)

L - 1/2 finger white head atop a translucent orange body.

    S - strong peach, sugar.

T - very tart sugared peaches. Lemon-lime. Only mildly sour but quite acidic. No bitterness. Mild sweetness. No booziness.

F - Medium-light body with pleasant high carb.

O - Save your bottle for a 100 degree day like this one. So satisfying.

    Nicklebrook raspberry uber
    ..pours a cherry mahogany color
    ..a little thin
...Aroma is raspberry/cherry juice, tart citrus, and a small amount of wheat
...Taste is unsweetened raspberry/cherry juice, tart citrus and a little wheat. A bit dry and tart but not very sour
..Overall it's excellent, dry and the low abv makes it a bit like fruit juice but still very nice[IMG]

Sadly though, while I definitely tolerate the dry heat of the West vs. the Midwest better, its far too often accompanied by smokey skies from wildfires. As now, with one burning approximately 20 miles to my West.

Thanks again! The hint of bourbon and yet the total lack of booziness for almost 14% makes it soooo dangerous.

Boy just walked in. He believes that it will be made again. It and Barrel Aged Paid Time Off are released at anniversary time once per year. They also make a non BA version of Uber Joe that comes out 1x per yr.

    New Beer #2
    [IMG]
    The review:
12oz canned 2/28/18 (4 months ago) poured into wine glass at fridge temp 9.5% ABV 20 IBU according to the can. The beer pours bright light brown with ruby highlights and khaki head. The aroma presents cherry, raisin, plum and cola aspects. The taste is more dark fruit along with some cola and cherry flavors mixed into the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and adequately carbonated. The finish is mostly dry with a perceived bitterness that I would say is more than the 20 IBU stated on the can. Overall, good. The parts of this beer are just not cohesive enough to contend with the Belgians.

Funny story about this beer. I bought a four pack a while ago and kept putting off an NBS entry for other beers. I brought some on vacation in case I couldn't find a fresh local beer, along with one to give to my brother in law. When we finished unpacking yesterday, my brother in law hands me this can saying he bought a 4 pack and it wasn't for him. Now I've got 2 left for late night vacation musings.

Cheers all and enjoy those new beers!
