I'm good with 12 oz of beer more often than not. If it is a lighter style such as a pilsener, Hefeweizen, witbier etc, then 16 oz may be appropriate.

I voted pint, if I am out, that is what I am going to get. I love going to a tasting room that has 8 oz pours though. If they have a good range of taps, especially lower ABV ones, then I can sample more wares vs the dreaded 4 oz sampler pour

12-16oz is my preferred size but it depends on the situation. If I am at a concert/sporting event I grab the larger cans so I don't have to refill as much. So for me its all about what I am doing.

I guess there's the "17oz or larger" option? haha

    Exactly right my friend.

If only I have an option to edit the poll to include saying for beers that are 5~7% ABV.
Guess its quite a common practice to serve 8% or higher ABVs in smaller pours.

Used to be a time when I would seek out 5L - collected the cans lol. Would usually finish same day. That Bells Best Brown Ale was a doozy!
    12oz. good nowdays.

Looks good but a decent pub would top this up. It is a pint to the brim. Excessive heads mean less beer

Surprised to see the poll options crawl slightly up ounce by ounce rather than range from 3 oz to 1 liter - representing the way beer is actually served. Who gets a 13oz beer?

A 12 ounce can 'hits the spot' for me and fits well inside my refrigerator.

A nice beer for a hot & humid summer day:

I'll take two 12s over a 20 any day and make 'em short glasses that are not easily knocked over.

I chose the 16oz serving size as my preference, but as others have said before, it really has to do with style and ABV. I do perfer the lower ABV offerings in 16 or imperial pint. Hell, sometimes I will start an evening off pouring two 12 ounce cans of a Kolsch or Pils into my bomber glass. The bigger stouts or imperial browns or IPA's are just fine in a 12oz serving.

    I pour 12-oz. cans/bottles into a 16-oz. mug, pints and 500ml cans/bottles go into a 20-oz. mug.
This way I can swish a swirl and not spill. I appreciate a bartender who tries to give a fair pour however I do not enjoy any glass filled to the top.

As stated by others, abv matters. To a lesser extent, so does style (think sour).

To me, setting also matters. For most beers... When out at a bar/restaurant, I prefer 16oz (and this is how I voted). Home, 12oz. With a group of friends, outside, a big mug or stein 500ml to 1l seems appropriate.

Too bad no one has written a book about beer etiquette. ;-)

Depends on the type of beer but usually 12 oz. That's enough for the beer to warm a bit and if it's really good I can always grab another. The heavier or sweeter beers 12 oz is usually plenty. If we are talking session beers or like a jacks abby house lager, gimme the pint or more.
