huh, looking forward to cracking mine over the weekend though kinda hoping the early reports of a diminished bourbon presence are untrue... anyone else notice a big difference between this and last year's batches?

I think that for the Bourbon County release, it was established that you have to be well-connected or extremely lucky to score a big beer from this store. Which is why I haven't bothered them for this release, and don't plan to for any future releases.

Yea that was ridiculous...a 'raffle' where you put your name and phone number and a piece of paper (which they bring to the back and, for all you know, throw it out)...this is the reason why I generally avoid going here at all costs. I've always found the staff there to be more rude than every other Binny's. I know a few stores in the NW area that might be getting this Monday-Tuesday but they are small, independent stores that always mark up the price a bit : (

I find this year's batch to be noticeably softer than last year's. The bourbon is a lot more subdued this time around and the body is not nearly as rich. Whereas I would've likened last year's to be more like a bourbon barrel-aged old ale (a la BB4D, etc), this year's just comes off as a generic "strong ale" with a vague barrel presence (the only hint is a tiny bit of vanilla in the taste/aroma). Funny how this beer has almost never tasted like a Scotch ale.

I'm starting to think that the 2011 batch was just a fluke.

Can't say I've had a problem with the staff at all, in person. I'm just tired of the pretense that everyone has an equal chance at getting a high-demand beer, when it's clear that they consistently take care of their friends at the expense of occasional customers like myself.

had mine last night, huge bourbon nose. i cant really say there was any diminished bourbon character at all, to me i smelled as though some one dropped a shot of beam in my dirty bastard, although i have nothing to compare it to didnt get a chance to have any last year.

^^Exactly why NOBODY should support Binny's...

Just like we support the local, small craft breweries, we should be supporting the local bottle shops as well.

Places like Binny's are why distributors fuck over some stores.

    Fuck Binny's.
