I'd bet Ken Stout would disagree with you.

Now that I have thought about it more (and prompted by another beer of this style tonight), I would really like them to do a Bourbon county stout/BW mixture - much like Jackie Os Cellar Cuvee 11 was, or Rushing Duck's Welcome to Duckburgh. Both just amazing to my palate.

I'm sure there are others that do this style, but those are the only 2 that I have had.

Yeah man! Revolution had a draft version of Deths Tar where the barrels had all been topped off with straight jacket and it was incredible.

I'd like to see a different coffee variant. Coffee vanilla, coffee cacao nib, coffee cinnamon, or something.

Ive made a 50/50 cuvee of BCBS and BCBBW before. Awesome stuff!

I was just disappointed in how thin prop was last year. I also think they need to dial the carb back a little bit. Might help develop that mouthfeel we all like

The event was a lot of fun. I did get the feeling they saw the Beer Temple french press event and said "wait, we can do that and charge 2x as much." The samples were good. Backyard is definitely the current best variant out of the BCBS arsenal.

One thing I forgot was that you could bring your own adjuncts which can improve creativity, though GI did provide 2 large tables of interesting choices. You got the ability to make several small 'test batches' to decide what you wanted to make for your variant. It was comical that people kept going back to the bar for more draft pours for their tests, but generous of Goose Island to not really heavily police how much you used.

We did 4 test batches, which included strawberries and chocolate, fresh pineapple
+ pineapple juice, but we settled on a blend that used BA Maple Syrup, marshmallow, and coconut extract. Unfortunately there was no actual shredded coconut to use.

At the end you got to bottle your own complete with a Goose Island branded crown. I'd definitely note that your beer is going to oxidize so you probably need to drink it shortly after the event. I had mine 5 days after the event and it was definitely getting close to flat.

I'm admittedly going on my limited experience, but I've found wheatwines to have more notes of caramel and coconut where as barleywines are more in the vein of figs and dates.

Both are great, just different. And yes, only slightly.

If I'm being honest, double vanilla sounds gross.

    Fight me.

Double vanilla has the same amount of vanilla as regular vanilla, the double is in regards to the price.

You guys have it all wrong. Double vanilla refers to multiple vanilla varieties! Im talking Madagascar + Ugandan.

Correction: Double Vanilla means vanilla ice cream and vanilla pudding were manually spittled into the bottle after the production of said beer.

To echo this, I spoke with one of the bartenders at Fulton about a month ago to see if they had any idea what would be coming down the pipe and they obviously didn't (had to ask anyway). But did say that VR was likely not going to be made again because of the 'been there, done that' mentality.
Prop seems to have had a rebirth last year and he said that they really want to get it right again this year. The wheatwine sounds very interesting. As far as blends go, I've mixed the very last bits of 14 Prop and 13 coffee and it was amazing. Wouldn't mind seeing a barleywine/stout blend in a bottle.

Sign me up for that horchata. Will be interesting to see how the vanilla compares to VR and also looks like my prediction of a vanilla not coming back was wrong.
