There's a middle ground between anti alcohol puritanism and taking your kids out to go drinking. I saw adults drink at family functions and 4th of july parties and gained an appreciation of drinking in a fun situation from that.

Anyone who wants to drink and fight is gonna do it because they're just an unhappy person. I think other lessons were also missed in parenting when that is happening.

My little take on this part of the thread is, once a month my wife and i walk downtown (1mile ) so I can get my haircut. After that we head for a little tavern to grab a few beers and some dinner. The time is 5:30 and it is a bar that has tables too and serves food. There is always prople with kids eating at that time and we expect it, so no suprise there and Don't see unruly kids ever.on the flipside one time we went out for sweetest day for a nice meal in the evenig at a nice fish place, and the place was packed full and we waited at the bar. When we were seated , we were a few tables away from a group of younger adults with younger kids, and were all drinking Martin's, and we're a few in!. The kids were out of control and wait staff was trying to controll the situation. Pretty bad manors for those parents and their drink choice was interesting considering they didn't likely walk there. We still talk about those kids running around the nearby tables while the parents just sat there talking amongst themselves.so I have seen both examples as well as most of you. The only thing I say is, it seems to me now days that in stead of correcting their kids on public behavior, a certain group of parents these days think that, hey these are OUR kids, and YOU just have to get over it.

This reminds me of a situation that happened 8 or 9 years ago on a cruise ship. We're all sitting at a table getting ready to order our meal when we hear this loud clinking noise. Said noise goes on uninterrupted for quite some time with only short intervals when it stopped. After a few minutes I decide to find the source of said loud clinking noise. What do I find? A group of parents sitting at a table with one of the kids hammering away at an overturned coffee cup with a spoon, so not only were they allowing the child to be supremely annoying to all the other guests in the dining room, but they had made it easier for him to do so by turning the cup upside down. Befuddled by this asshattery, I shook my head and asked them politely, but rather sternly, to please stop. The rest of the dinner was quietly relaxing, but all I could think the entire time was, "What the fuck are people thinking? Are we, as a society really becoming this selfish and self-absorbed that nothing and nobody matters but us?" I was, and am still, quite frightened for the future of the Western world with its ever-increasing population of entitled douchebags. Manners maketh man.

I'm pretty ambivalent about dogs in bars. I like them and around here where they're allowed I've really not seen any problems. It all does depend on the dog. My big ol' Treeing Walker Coonhound Otis would be a huge hit, but I would never subject him to being trapped inside, wanting to be friends with everyone. It would not be fair to him. Well behaved kids are never a problem and should never be out late. Dogs do seem to be an affectation for some folks, and I feel sorry for those dogs.

That does suck and I worry as well. But that's one of the reasons I avoid cruise ships. Being confined with god knows who for any amount of time on any ocean is something I'll just never do. But that's just me. The best ship cruise I ever took was from Rijecka to Dubrovnik on a freighter with an international group of travelers, sleeping on deck. We were dodging islands in a ridiculously blue sea, watching huge fish many feet down, in abslolutely pristine water. It was perfect.

I like cans. They don't shatter, recycle better, protect from light better, store better. They're an all around better method of storage. plus, aluminum beverage cans are just a modern engineering marvel

I drive roughly 200 miles a day and can tell you without hesitation that 80% are that selfish self absorbed as you describe. Based on daily observations of cell phone use while driving. Most cannot drive without it in hand, rendering any blinker use too much to handle.

I've only told others what I think. If you're compelled by it all, then that is your problem.
Anyway, I'm glad for not having to share space with the kid haters and the kids that the kid haters are hating on.

While the the cell phone use (of the non-talking on it type) is certainly frustrating, the shaving, putting on make-up, and reading the newspaper (yes, the newspaper) is equally so.

Modern drivers are generally very self-centered, rude, drive too fast, and are often tail-gating assholes that often get my digital salutes and are shocked and want to speak. They do not want to talk to me. What ever happened to the notion of driving as a group and in an expeditious manner way back there in driver's ed?

I'm MUCH better with suppressing my road rage these days. I think part of it is that I'm just a more relaxed, courteous driver.

There have been times, though, when I couldn't let it go. If you cut me off and then give ME the finger, it's on. LOTS of funny stories stemming from those situations. All of which I wouldn't care to repeat any time soon. That said, I always enjoy the look on people's faces when I request that they, "Get out of the car, you fucking *****!" They always, without fail, look shocked like, "Me? What did I do?". Unbelievable.

Na. Well, nobody that wanted "to talk about it" at least.

Fucked up story. I'm going to work on a Saturday morning when I lived in Denver, where it is a ticketable offense to impede traffic in the left lane, even if you need to exceed the speed limit to pass. There's a car in the left lane pacing the car next to it. I flash my brights at the car and he decides to slam on his brakes at highway speed. FUCK. THAT.

I follow him all while trying to talk myself off the ledge and convince myself that it isn't worth it and I should just go to work. We are, I shit you not, going 15 mph on a four lane 65 mph area of I-25. He finally decides to pull off the interstate and go into a McDonald's. I, again, try to talk myself off the ledge, but can't resist. I follow him into the McDonald's. When I approach him, he's visibly shaking, holding his cell phone at arms length towards me. I tell him, "I bet you'll never do that again, will you?" and leave.

As I get in my car to go to work, 5-0 shows up. Fuck. I'm very cooperative and tell the officer that this guy thought it was funny to almost cause a serious accident. He says, "I understand, sir, but this kind of behavior is considered stalking. Please don't do it again."

For the most part, I haven't. It's not stalking if they follow you into the parking lot, btw.
