Women account for something like <1% of all manual labor jobs in most countries. Why is that? Average physical gap? Outside discouragement from a young age? Generation old ingrained gender roles? I don’t know.

However the observation that women are often treated differently and/or wrongly evaluated based on their gender and looks vs. experience and skills (an observation shared by most women in the field), is neither the reason, nor is it particularly controversial.

Because everything that you said after you said that was wrong.

That said, I'll give you a chance to defend your position.

"with all the people saying how awkward the host is has me thinking most of you have not actually interacted with awkward people"

Convince me that she's a good host.

"I found it pretty enjoyable for the most part, maybe could have asked a little more in depth questions with the home brewers, but can understand they are trying to show it to as broad an audience as they can."

This show is supposed to be about homebrewing and has next to no homebrewing in it. Why is a broad audience better than a specific one?

    "The host seemed genuine"

What part of her dialogue or mannerisms make you say this?

"the location of the episode was great"

What about the location was so great?

    "the people highlighted were interesting"

What about the people made them interesting?

"Way better than anything that was on the Brew Dog or Dogfishhead shows"

Why do you find Beerland more interesting than those two shows?

Oh for gods sake, I don't have to convince you of anything, I just saw one episode of a show on YouTube and had a different opinion on it (only reason I watched it was this thread, I hardly watch anything on TV).

So you came here to convince us that we were wrong?

    OK.

No to give another opinion, you are not wrong. Just that not everyone agrees (or at least I don't). Again, just off of one episode I felt the "awkwardness" about the host people keep mentioning is a little overblown. Don't need to go into a line be line analysis of a post on BA right now.

Fair enough, man. Just wondering why you had such a diametrically opposed impression of the show than most of the people here. That's all.

I guess just automatically dismissing my opinion because I have never heard of a TV station didn't make me want to continue to the conversation all that much either

I wouldn’t put her in the top 10 most awkward people I’ve ever encountered, but certainly in the top 5 most awkward to have their own TV show.

It was meant to be funny, brother. Should've remembered that you lose a lot in this medium. Guess I should've used an emoji?

Jobs within the craft beer industry are not exclusively manual labor jobs, probably not even the majority of them are.

Uhh, when the observation is "attractive women have everything handed to them in this business", then yeah, that observation is toxic to women. Particularly when that observation comes with a transphobic kicker.

I mean, look at this thread. The premise of the show has barely been mentioned, but oh boy are the dudes of this forum excited to scrutinize every aspect of the woman who hosts it.

I wasn’t talking about the greater ‘craft beer industry’, I was talking about brewing, which is nearly exclusively manual labor. And even if we are talking about the entire industry, that too is likely majority manual labor AND male-dominated. Lots more line chefs, CDL drivers, warehouse workers, etc. that marketing people (which is often female-dominated).

You’re putting words in my mouth. I never said that. Look, is this sexist? “Frankly, there aren’t too many hunks in this industy, so hot brewers often get more opportunities.’ That’s just the truth, man. Most of the people who work here share pastimes of eating 1000 calorie pub burgers and drinking 300 calorie IPAs. There are not a lot of conventionally attractive people here and the few here often go further. There aren’t many women here and the same is true. Ergo, the combination of a conventionally attractive woman is exceedingly rare and they are often (not always) offered opportunities fat sweaty dudes with big beards are not offered. And are conversely often NOT offered opportunities that men would get.

Are you actually arguing that attractive people do not get treated differently? Or that women in male-dominated workplaces do not get treated differently? Do you also think that every employer is colorblind and people don’t get treated differently based on race? Lol, please find me a girl brewer who agrees with you!

Also, ‘transphobic kicker’? Please! I better tell that to my friend who actually cracked the joke himself after transitioning. It’s a riff off the old battle of the sexes cliche and there’s nothing transphobic about it.

[/QUOTE]The premise of the show isn’t the problem, it’s the execution. And that has been mentioned plenty. It’s also bad.

The host is brought up so much because her sheer awkwardness is so uncommon to see in TV, whether male or female; it’s kinda surreal. It has nothing to do with her gender, stop pretending like that’s the problem. You think guys don’t shit on male TV personalities? Go ask some sports fans what they think of Joe Buck. Or Colin Cowherd or Skip Bayless.

You are wasting your time and energy looking for bigotry here. There are actual bigots out there. A lot of themrecently. But I’m not seeing any here. Go fight them on the Yahoo comment section.

What about that judge in the season finale that appears to be well over 400lbs? Maybe he should cut back a bit. Apparently he's a popular bartender in San Diego. That being said, he should be the host going forward.

It's much easier to talk about sexism, racism, or bigotry when the show that you're trying to defend sucks AND a woman or other minority is hosting it. Otherwise it's just a show that sucks.

Precisely. Just like ‘racism’ cries aimed at critics of Stephen A. Smith. It’s not because he’s black, it’s because he’s bad. He’s not the victim, we are...

I must be the only one on here that really likes show. I greatly disliked beer but had not had any since college so, the show got me into some craft beers. I rarely watch anything online but I like her natural flirty but somewhat serious manner. I used to only drink vodka straight or an occ fruity mixed (I am a chick). Also, used to work at NBC and CBS back un the 90s. Tv is really hard to do (was in ....beer commercials when i was waaay younger). Look on You Tube. There is ackward and bad talent for years on there.

    That is untrue. I
I love Eddie Hwang's show. My favorite food show ever. Also, his first book based on the show was good. The second book was not up to that standard

That is not true. I worked in tv for a few years in LA. I knew two people credited as writers on The Simple Life. Paris was too ditzy to say anything interesting 'off the cuff. That show was pegged as reality tv
