Just wondering if this early 2018 release was just a one time thing and will be dormant another 6+ years, or whether Founders has put out any information yet whether they will bottle this annually? Some google searches turned up blank for me.

I would bet a lot of money that they don't release it again next year. Probably be at least a few years before they do it again. Other than KBS and Backwoods Bastard, they switch up their barrel aged offerings every year.

If they released it in 12 oz bottles for a reasonable price, I think it would do well for them. I doubt they'll do it though. They'll probably take an ipa everyone likes, put it in a wine barrel or something and ruin it instead. Haven't been too impressed with their choices lately, though I haven't tried barrel runner yet. Didn't hear good things about that either though.

Dankwood wasn't the best thing I ever had, but wasn't bad by any means. Barrel-runner was hot. I would agree barrel aging IPAs isn't the best way to go. CBS was a definite win for me and wouldn't mind seeing four packs like the international release they did. That being said I don't believe we will see it again this year. I've heard the next release is Crumudeons Better Half, which I'm excited for. Leaving one more release to be had.

I enjoyed Dankwood quite a bit. Was not a fan of Barrell Runner (tasted like boozy butterscotch). Crumudgeon's Better Half sounds quite interesting as I love regular Curmudgeon. Ratings are high, I'm probably buying. Wonder if BA Curmudgeon will ever be bottled/distributed? Saw that was brewery only release. High ratings as well.

Back to CBS, around my parts it went for about $30 a bottle. It still moved out quickly and I stopped seeing any after about 1-2 weeks from release.

Have also heard rumblings that the final Founders barrel aged series beer for 2018 could be BA Sumatra Mountain Brown, which sounds tasty. Due to the popularity it has had in their tap room and Founders social media putting winky face emoji's on a post asking if they are releasing it this year.

I tried it a couple weeks ago at the tap room I believe. It was good from my memory, also a porter they aged in a port barrel was decent. I doubt the latter will see distribution, though it's better than most of their non stout BA releases thus far IMO.

It actually came out December 1, 2017 though I suppose some places were still getting it in January. They said at that time that it would be out in 2019 again. They didn't say when in 2019, for all we know it's January, 2019. I'm betting late Fall again.

I had my first CBS in December and didn't like it, primarily due to a metallic taste in my mouth - not the beer. Should have waited. I had another one on father's day and it was incredible, strong maple. I'd rather see this in 4-packs of 12oz like foreign distribution was.

Just wonder who is "they said". Assuming you are getting the info. from Founders, but I didn't see anything on their website. Just wondering the source.

The unspecified "they" that is responsible for much of the content on the internet

The post below indicates it was from a 75% trustworthy source. Good enough for me. Those who really know can't say, so rumor is all we'll have for a while. If we wait for proof, we'll have it only when we see it in the store. Given the time it reportedly takes to make it, two years makes sense unless they find enough maple barrels to come out with it every year, overlapping batches.

I had BA Sumatra Mountain Brown at the CBS release. I thought it was very good. I hope the 4 pack price is in line with Backwoods/Dankwood/Barrel Runner.

Releasing BA Sumatra would be a great move, as it is rated 4.59 with 57 ratings. Given that I like regular Sumatra and like BA beers, I'd buy it in quantity.

Hopefully so, however considering Sumatra Mountain Brown is around 13.99 a 4pk for the base beer alone .. I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed.

I wanted to edit my comments on Barrel Runner. Just opened one from the four pack I originally purchased. The hot rum/rubbing alcohol taste isn't even the most off-putting aspect, what is that plastic smell/taste ? Reminds me of opening a new refrigerator at Sears lol. Otherwise it's pretty smooth.

I sure hope they make CBS again.

I haven't tried Dankwood yet, but I hope they release Doom again. I never thought a BBA TIPA would be that delicious.
