Yea sorry was talking about the IPAs and even that gose probably but I havent had it yet.

Nothing like Frooted will ever be in shops because it needs to stay cold and move fast or they will explode!

 

I'm just shocked.... that I'm still getting shocked at the ridiculousness of the Chicago beer scene.

I was going to head there in about an hour just to grab a bite to eat and a beer or two, since I will be in the area... but maybe not anymore.

 

Holy shit people lined up for Frooted? lmao

 

The Chicago beer scene has been like this for the better part of the last 8-10 years, so none of this is surprising. Its just that we've gone through about 3 generations of advocates during that time period, newer breweries for people to jump on the hype train, and easier access to social media outlets. If you survived or were shut out of the 08-09 DLD lines, you know what I mean.

 

I got there at 10:55, and it wasn't terrible at all. Maybe just over 100 people in line, and I was out with my 4-packs in 20-25 minutes

Definitely far from a shit show, but it was the biggest non-stout turnout I've seen line up before open.

 

Did a lot of people stay and grab food/beer, or was there still space? Just curious if most of the crowd was there for the cans only.

 

A lot of the line went straight from cans to the restaurant. When I left, the bar was completely full, and they were just starting to tell people that it will be a wait to get a table. That was roughly 11:30, so I'm sure it's more chaotic inside now.

 

Got my cans right about 11:30 and was going to stay for a pour but it was a 45 minute wait for table at that point and the bar was packed. Crazy, crazy beer.

 

BA Henna with no adjuncts is on tap by the way.

 

The past 2-3 More canned releases there was no line, in and out. Granted they did sell out fast cuz people were constantly going in and out, but do wonder if this will be the new norm now. Lines before opening.

Maybe I should quit my 9-5 and go to these releases instead. I could probably support my family on flipping them on the secondary lol

This is absolutely untrue.

It only got bad, like, 5 years ago I'd say, and it's only been absolutely bonkers for the last couple.

It's been bonkers for at least 5 years if not more. I'd argue it got bonkers back around 2010 when GI had the first BCBS lines at Binnys and FFF had to start ticketing DLD

 

I was going to go at about 3:00 to try for cans. They'll be gone by 2:00. Everything sold out in 3 hours. Yeah, that's not normal.

 

I think it would depend on what is being released. Usually they only release 1 or 2 varieties at a time. This time they released 5 varieties and with it being anniversary weekend, some may have been expecting a special tapping of some sorts which did happen, thus the larger early crowd.

Side note: BA Henna was good but not great IMO. You guys didn't miss out much besides the tick. The line had the vote on BA Henna or non BA Karma. I would have voted Karma even though I have had it before. I prefer Shaun's non BA over BA. I think the BA stuff still needs work. Of course, subjective, just my opinion.
