I just had one of the Westbrook Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Tripels (quiet good btw) and noticed the "Barrel Room Reserve Series" label. Just wondering if anyone had any information on this. Has it been going on for a while? If so what beers have I missed? Anyone know of any future beers in the works as part of the series? I'm a sucker for barrel aged beers, and a whole series from a great local brewery is exciting to me.

Three wine barrel aged tripels were released last year (cab, malbec and pinot noir). There is a lot more to come based on my last visit to the barrel room.

Were you by any chance able to find out what types of barrels they had? I'd love to see them start producing some barrel aged IS's . I heard a rumor that the next anniversary beer would be a barrel aged Mexican cake.

The "Barrel Room Reserve Series" b&w labels have only been on the Apple Brandy -bal Tripel, and 100% Brett Lichtenhainer (their Lichtenhainer Weisse, aged for 10 months in inoculated red wine barrels), released in the brewery at roughly the same time.

Last year's 3 Red Wine -bal Tripels were in Single-Barrel Rombauer Cab, Tiger Mountain Malbec, and Whetstone Pinot Noir. They also put out Brett and No Mices last year (brett-fermented, red wine -bal Belgian pale ale).

They have somewhere around 85 barrels in the barrel room, so it's anybody's guess as to what's next at this point. I got an interview with him on it which should be out this month, will release full audio/transcript when the article-version comes out in Eat This! Charleston.

[waits on mikeincharleston to correct anything I screwed up]

They did a pint night with an Apple Brandy -bal Imperial Stout last month, but I think that's gonna be draft only. Could be wrong.

Cool thanks for the info. I had the apple brandy barrel Citrus Ninja, which I dug.

85 barrels seems like a ton. Exciting prospects.

    Also, how's the Brett Lichtenhainer?

Yep chsbeer is totally correct as far as barrel bottle releases. The new tripel and 100% brett are the first 2 beers with the new barrel reserve labels. There have been other barrel stuff to come out like ba citrus ninja, apple brandy stout, wine barrel quad and maybe one I cant think of but all those were for dinners, special tasting or brewvival, so draft only.

When I was there on Sat there seemed to be a decent amount left.

Ill never complain about a jack Daniels barrel aged stout. I wonder how barrel aging would affect Mexican Cake. I'm thinking the barrel characters would mask the base beer, take that pepper heat off. Either way I'd love to find out!

Aside from the (fantastic) year rounds, any idea of what Westbrook bottled offerings I would hope to find in the Greenville SC area in December? Website suggests Vanilla Tree Double, which I've had and enjoyed.

As of yesterday, I think Greenville Beer Exchange had plenty of Dark Helmet (I picked one up to try) and Vanilla Tree Dubbel. I would think they would be there in December. Getting low on the Amarillo Single Hop Rye Pale Ale and the Bearded Farmer Hughey Saison though, so you might miss those.
